Dead/black screen, previously working fine?

Hey guys, so had the Vega for around 6 wks and was happy with it. Out of the blue the other day I went to wake it up from standby and the screen 'came on' black and then went off again. It did make the battery low noise so I let it discharge. Couple of days later gave it a full charge, tried to switch on and again, it's as if it recognises the power button being held but the screen is just 'black' when it comes on for a few seconds.

Got back to work today, have to tried to re-flash with the newest Advent image on the website to be safe, went through the installation procedure without any probs but again, nothing viewable when it is switched on.

It was using system image v1.04 (or something) from the Advent website, no other mods or anything. It also hasn't had any damage/knocks or anything, haven't taken it out of the house prior to this!

Anyone else had any probs with their screen? What are the options with regards to replacements at the moment? I don't think I even got a receipt with it, just the order confirmation from Currys!....

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated...

Hi,

I had the exact same problem, I had mine for about 3 weeks then one day black screen. It looked like a power inverter to me, as when I was re-flashing (which went successfully but still resulted in a black screen) the light caught the screen at just the right angle and I could see a really dim dialogue box.

I had to return it to PC World get a refund then order a new one. What a pain, I hope this doesn't start happening frequently.

Hey fella, thanks for the reply, that does sound exactly like it - at one point I thought I could just make out the battery low dialogue box briefly, but then wasn't sure if I imagined it.

Is it better to try get a refund and buy or new one or to do an exchange? Would I get any priority on new stock available seeing as it has developed a fault? Also is there any way to contact that Advent Vega dude on Twitter by e-mail/other (anything apart from Twitter!) - I have a feeling if I only speak to Currys they won't be too bothered whereas that guy has always seemed pretty helpful...

Thanks again

The number on the advent site is 0844 5610000, Im not sure who youll get though. I got mine from PC World, the first person I spoke to said that he would arrange a swap for me next week when new stock was coming in. But he said I had to get an uplift number from there technical department first. I then phoned them up who said that they could not issue one for that product and to phone customer services back. I phoned them back spoke to a different person who said there could be no swap, and my best bet would be to take it into my nearest branch and get a refund. Then reorder a new one when they came in. I dont think they have a clue whats going on, you might get hold of someone who will reserve you one or summit, but then again you might get one who tells you a bunch of BS. If you take back youll defo get your money back and then its there to order. Youll also get to cut out the middle man who may or may not be a moron (they are all nice though). And if they did reserve you one and swap etc theres still no guarantee that you will see it any quicker. Who knows something might come out of CES that you want instead.

I also didn't give my charger back with it, that'll learn them.

Ah grrrrrr, just realised from order confirmation that it wasn't Currys but Dixons I ended up getting it from, which'll deffo mean phoning up, they don't have stores any more? Kinda awkward to do when at work as well and not really got the time to spend... haven't set up a twitter account but might do just to ask 'the twitter Vega dude' (sorry can't rmbr/know his name!) if there's anything they can do, I know that I'll get the runaround from Dixons pretty much how you and other people have in the past.

Bloody shame as well cuz I wuz dead happy with the thing!

Alternatively does anyone know if there is a way of contacting that Vega guy directly or by e-mail? I rmbr when people were having trouble tracking orders he seemed to try to keep tabs on it. I fear if Dixons take the Vega back I'll never see it again!! Even tho' it isn't much more than a shiny black mirror right now. An expensive shiny black mirror.

Cheers

Ok this is a bit worrying, the last reply on the Twitter feed is to a guy who'd previously asked about screen rotation/orientation, looks like his most recent post to them is:

@AdventVega Vega screen blank with backlight on when I try to boot. LED blinks a purpley-pink colour? What has happened to it?:( Thanks

Is there a batch of suicidal Vegas out there?!! Seems his appeared to die right about when mine did!! I presume the purpley-pink colour thing he mentions is when it's plugged in and charging.

Any one else had any screen issues?!! Like I say the tablet is recognised by PC when put in recovery mode, has been re-flashed, screen comes on very faintly if switched on but yeah blank for all intents and purposes...
