Guest TheLobe Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Hi guys, dropped my phone in some water the other day and apparantly my accidental damage insurance doesn't cover accidents so I'd like to try and fix the problem myself. When I finally manage to get the phone to turn on it comes up in safe mode with the screen locked. I can't seem to get the phone to unlock in the normal fashion (sliding down the screen) so I'm going to assume that its the touch screen that is broken. The only problem is i'm not entirely sure what I need to buy to replace this can anyone advice, a very breif google search turned up this and before I buy I'd like to know if this is what will remedy the problem http://www.algogo.com/store/products/Origi...-Digitizer.html or this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-HTC-GOOGLE-G...4a675d6ff49a63b Any further advice on the any potential pitfalls while trying to replace the screen for the first time would also be appreciated as I'm completely virgin at this! Thanks in advance
Guest slimfady Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Hard luck on your dropped phone, Part of my Hero screen stopped responding to touch before so I had to replace the digitizer. Since water damage is present in your case, there's no guarantee that your digitizer would be the only fault (the main board could also be damaged). Anyway, if you're willing to take the risk, the only thing you need to worry about is removing the old digitizer from the phone casing. It's glued to the body, which makes it tricky to remove. The best way to remove it is to heat up the joints between the digitizer and the body using a hair dryer, which will soften the glue making it possible to remove. You can refer to this XDA topic for more user experience on replacing the digitizer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572094 Good Luck Hi guys, dropped my phone in some water the other day and apparantly my accidental damage insurance doesn't cover accidents so I'd like to try and fix the problem myself.
