Guest popoyaya Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 I've been using froyo with move2sd but still keep getting memory low warnings. Admittedly this is after installing 98 apps, but i want more! The problem seems to be that with move2sd some of the internal memory is still used up even when the app is moved to the sd card. I've heard that app2sd moves the entire data partition to the card, so would this solve the problem? Any caveats with this method?
Guest HypnoPig Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 I'm not sure if it's the most elegant solution, but I have been using Titanium Backup to force apps to the SD card. Personally I've not tried apps2sd so I can't really comment.

You need to add an ext3 (I think) partition to the end of your SD card and use a ROM supporting Apps2SD. It should be picked up automatically. This will symlink /data/app to /system/sd/app which is the ext partition. So then if you move all your apps back 'to phone' you will actually be moving them onto the ext partition. The apps which were on the phone already should be moved automatically. Use Quick System Info to check if it worked. Edited January 5, 2011 by IronDoc

Guest IronDoc Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 You said you'd been moving them with Move2SD. The ones you have done will still be in the fat partition. When you go into an app's details, there will be a button saying either 'move to phone' or 'move to SD'.

Guest Rotmann Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) We should also mention that the ext2 or ext3 apps2sd method is a hack and is not so reliable. I have had in the past numerous fails on apps2sd on ext2 partitions (on 2.1 though) which made the whole ROM unusable. Another solution is to install a ROM like the VolcanoMOD which leaves a lot of free space on the phone, combined with move2sd it should be fine for a bigger number of apps Edited January 6, 2011 by Rotmann
