"Unknown Device" when going for R6 via USB

OK, so i'm trying to upgrade from R5 to R6, and the only entry that comes up[ in device manager when i connect the Vega via USB is "Unknown Device". Each and every time i direct it to the drivers included with the download it states that "Windows has determined the drivers for this device are up to date" - Great, thanks a lot microsoft, but i'm pretty sure they aren't.

Device IS in Debugging mode, but bug icon on Vega doesn't appear. Have searched the forum and nowt so far.

Has anyone encountered this issue? and what are your suggestions to get round it?

Also unable to flash stock Vega rom as PC doesn't recognise device btw.

Thanks in advance

See if you can right-click Unknown Device in device manager, and see if you have an Uninstall option. Do that if you do, and if you got Vista/Win7, tick the "also delete the drivers" box before clicking ok. Unplug Vega, plug it back in again and give it another go!

I have win7, but don't get the "Also delete drivers" option. Just right click > Uninstall > Screen gives warning and ok / cancel options.

This just brings me back in a circle (have been doing this for about an hour now

thanks for the speedy response tho!

No worries!

One thing that might be also worth trying is trying a different USB port on your PC, sometimes this makes Windows detect it as a new device and install drivers from scratch.

OK, my bad. I was using a long extendable USB cable as well as the one that came with the Vega so i could have it beside me whilst updating, (Cable too short normally).

For some reason, when i tried with just the Vega cable, it connected straight away.

Thanks

I believe I've read somewhere in the forum that the Vega USB cable may be wired differently to a standard one? So keep it safe and labelled
