Guest dan098 Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) Hi all, I am hoping that some of you guys can help me in relation to my touch screen sensitivity. I have read other topic about multiple touches and dead spots, but my screen seems to have a whole new issue? I have had my vega since xmas day and have been loving it, but thought the touchscreen was a bit off sometimes especially when on the web? When I try to scroll a page the screen just refuses to scroll! Due to this I have installed the Multitouch Visualiser tool 2 and have noticed some quirky touch issues ie I dont seem to be able to use multitouch vertically up the screen in landscape and when I try to go past the horizontal with 2 fingers on the screen the screen thinks that my fingers are doing something else? I have uploaded a video of this here I am running the stock firmware for the video, but i have the exact same problems with Pauls R5 and R6. If some of you guys could have a look and confirm to me that my screen is faulty I will be grateful and be getting it fixed by PC World ASAP as I do love the Vega. Cheers, Dan Edited January 6, 2011 by dan098
Guest Bobbler Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Yes would be the short answer to your question. One thing though, do you have the power supply plugged in while doing it? Because if so mine goes berserk like that when it's plugged in - double presses on keys and misses completely

When you pinch the 2 points circles stay always with the fingers and don't go the oposite way. Hope this helps you
Guest dan098 Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Bobbler, I haven't got it plugged in during the video, but when it is plugged in it doesn't change for me? Cheers for your replies methinks I will be phoning PC World in the AM.
Guest trevor432990 Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Dan ... your post and video raises several questions which I shall try to help with :- the touchscreen was a bit off sometimes especially when on the web? When I try to scroll a page the screen just refuses to scroll! I have found from my own experience that when the page does not scroll it is usually down to the fact I've reached the bottom of the page without realising it or when I press on the screen my finger has strayed into a 'non-text' area of the page e.g. flash based advert or video which for some reason refuses to scroll. If you are finding this a major issue you could consider using a browser such as Dolphin HD which allows you to use gesture control or even the volume buttons for up/down scrolling. I dont seem to be able to use multitouch vertically up the screen in landscape In the video when you perform multitouch you seem to always be rotating your fingers at the same time and I know that in some apps such as Google maps this is not working currently though someone I believe is actively looking at providing us with a mod for this when I try to go past the horizontal with 2 fingers on the screen the screen thinks that my fingers are doing something else? I agree this is rather peculiar and it might be worth trying that experiment again with the Vega flat on a desk and with the G-sensor switched on/off because I'm wondering if the movement sensors are tripping in somehow
Guest Lennyuk Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Right basically due to apple patents the "multi-touch" on the vega is infact not multitouch at all, its duel touch (same as all htc phones pre desire z and desire hd) It works by calculating a change of size between the two locations (i.e pinch zooming) but does not accurately record the movement of the positions especially when crossing axis. Its a common problem with a lot of android products, you can blame apple. Nothing we can do to fix it as its the way its designed. Google it you will see tonnes of phones have the same "problem". So to summarise you can use pinch zoom apps, but not multitouch games.

I seen a few points his video when the thing just loses tracking of at least one finger entirely, especially when spinning "over" the other original position with both at the same time, crossing the axis. This point here - concerns me, and doesn't look anything like my tracking. Mine tracks fairly robustly, even moving at higher speed it always maintains both finger touch points hence my response originally.

If yours doesn't lose track of your position then consider yourself lucky. Like I said its the way its been designed to work, note how even when it loses track of the position it still correctly judges the "size" of the "pinch". Look up videos of multi-touch on any older htc phones including the nexus one and you will see its exactly the same as that video.
Guest dan098 Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Guys, again cheers for all of your comments and input. I understand that the screen isn't true multi touch, but I am trying to figure out if these quite annoying quirks are the norm for most of you guys or if it is a small minority? Just so that I can confirm that my screen is faulty rather than the software not being able to do multi touch. If you guys could please confirm that when you do the same motions you get the same mirrored action then I would be very grateful and I will be able to relax a little more as I do like my Vega :-) Thanks for all the input so far.

Guest trevor432990 Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Dan you might like to checkout this earlier topic in which a multi-touch fix is described as maybe it'll fix your problem ?

I don't get any problem when crossing axis, and I'm able to play Dungeon defenders and use multitouch easily, and without issues. I don't think that the screen multitouch problem is a hardware issue, by default, but the screen on dan098's screen is faulty. I'm just trying to say that I think the screen is capable of full 2-point touch. Edited January 7, 2011 by HunteronX

Plenty of Android devices have 2+ points of multitouch (Droid/Milestone/Galaxy S) those that don't do this properly are using the cheaper clearpad1000 digitizer (Nexus1/G1/Desire/etc) that only supports 1+1 points and suffers from axis crossing. Multiple touch points are _not_ patented by Apple. Some mechanisms of responding to some gestures are (in the US, where such sillyness is possible). The digitiser in the Vega can supposedly support up to 4 points (this is enabled in kernels other than the Advent one) the digitiser in the Folio 100 did support 4 points without issue. While I do have issues with the digitiser on my Vega I have _never_ seen it swap axis like the clearpad1000 devices, I believe the op's is more faulty that the rest of ours.

Guest dan098 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Well thanks for all the replies guys, I went into PC World today and after an hour and a half of waiting and talking I had to take a refund as they cannot exchange them at the moment as they don't have any in stock? :-( Also one for all of you, I was told that if at anytime during the warrenty period yours should start to malfunction, DSG don't have the means to fix the Vega so you would most likely be getting a replacement :-) I am now back to square one like I was at the end of Nov waiting for stock to appear. Cheers again for all your help, I didn't want to let go of my Vega but if it was worse than most I also didn't want an inferior product.
