Guest jmpan Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 will battery run out faster with android 2.2?
Guest Cirno Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) will battery run out faster with android 2.2? Well been testing different rom's and different versions of them/ 2.1 and 2.2. What I can say is that all fully stable 2.1 roms have a cleaner usage of the battery. However the worst battery thief in my case is Japanese Jellyfish RLSX Cellphone standby is always at 95%, so I see my battery go down like a timer. Tick tock tick tock almost dead... I hope someone will resolve it later? Edited January 8, 2011 by Cirno
Guest dadashi Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I installed RLS5 last night for the first time and it's eating the battery like never before...I'll keep testing for a couple of days. It could be the round percentage battery indicator isn't very accurate. I'll know in a couple of days time...
Guest mrflibbles Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I installed RLS5 and it did the same thing... battery life went down in minutes of use but I looked at the battery usage screen and it said "Screen 30%" and "Google Maps 26%". I turned off automatic brightness and set it to minimum. I killed of Google Maps with task killer. Since then (with light use) it has been similar to 2.1
Guest Rotmann Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 On Sebastian404's Froyo with the newest kernel I notice a slightly better battery life than 2.1 (+15%).
Guest targetbsp Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) To provide a counter point to this, my rls 5 went down 0% overnight - same as 2.1. :D Or more accurately, less than 1% I spose. In use it seemed normal. I wonder if people are taking into account that all the time spent restoring backups and re-setting up the phone is going to drain the battery faster than their normal use. Same as when people who have just got the phone think the battery is crap - because they spend all day playing with it. Edited January 8, 2011 by targetbsp

Had overclocked it (691mhz) and it seems that it doesn't loose much more battery life than before.
Guest Simon O Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Jellyfish and my rom have Google Maps 5 installed. it's this killing battery life :D Turn off GPS, turn off network locations in Settings. That should keep it down a bit.
Guest KenBW2 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Installed JJ RLS5 here and left it overnight - went from ~75% to ~60% so no issues here
Guest godsakes Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 definately drains the battery faster (why i don't know) i'm just trying to play with a few settings to minimise the drain - does anyone know if setting my network mode to GSM only will help (as opposed to WCDMA)
Guest Cirno Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Installed JJ RLS5 here and left it overnight - went from ~75% to ~60% so no issues here Sleep or fully running? Because I with JJ RLS4 I could have it at sleep for like 4 days and it still lived on, but as soon I start to use it boom dying like no end. A test I did, with JJ RLS4, 48 hours of sleep from 84% to 79% I found it quite good, but use it for 1 hour, from 79% to 12% not so cool... Edited January 8, 2011 by Cirno

Guest Victor von Zeppelin Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Hmm, I have the same problem with battery drainage, RLS5 of JJ. I don't have maps installed, I have no 3g coverage in the area at all, and mobile data is off. I have full signal, so no cell-searching. But still, the majority of my battery usgae is cell radio. With seemingly no cause.
Guest sumdumguy Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) With everything else turned off what else do you expect it to be ? Edited January 8, 2011 by sumdumguy
Guest Arr Too Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 48 hours of sleep from 84% to 79% I found it quite good, but use it for 1 hour, from 79% to 12% not so cool... I would suggest that that initial 79% after 48 hours was an unrealistic figure, so the perceived massive drop is simply the phone adjusting to the real figure. I've found the battery %age indicator to be wildly unreliable, sometimes increasing after a period of sleep. :D
Guest That-Guy Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I am using Seb's r0.3 2.2 Froyo and I would say my battery life has improved since switching from the stock 2.1 ROM :D I would say I am getting an extra 15% depending on usage.
Guest domdom43 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Yesterday y installed JJ RLS5 (Total Phone Transplant) then a batterie calibration. When i saw the count down %, i disabled Hardware acceleration editing the build.prop with root-explorer i also installed setCPU and i add a profil that set CPU frequency to 122Mo when screen is off (min =122MHz max=122MHz). Default profil is 245Mhz->600Mhz Can't set min freq to 122MHz when phone is one because performances are really to bad... The power consumption seems now to be better but steal seems to consumes more than 2.1. Here is a screen shot of power consumption 40% of power is for Idle GSM !!! Edited January 8, 2011 by domdom43
Guest dorren Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Using JJ rls 5, From yesterday at 23 until now i have gone down from 78% to 40% including normal amount of phonetalk, some angry birds and surfing :D
Guest DrEzkimo Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 this is the only thing stopping me from upgrading, wonder if the setup will ever be ok
Guest stanno Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) this is the only thing stopping me from upgrading, wonder if the setup will ever be ok Same for me. I often go to remote places where it isn't possible to charge a phone, so battery life is the most important issue, especially as there aren't spare batteries on the market yet. With the stock 2.1, turning 3G off extends the battery life by a lot (probably up to 3-4 days with very light phone use). I won't be installing any rom until I know it won't be more battery hungry that the stock setup. Edited January 12, 2011 by stanno
Guest Boozebeard Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 IF I turn all the extras off then it lasts for ever but as soon as I enable 3g/wifi I can practically watch my battery drain, bit annoying :C
Guest Rotmann Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 My wife gets 3-4 days on Seb's Froyo with some Wi-Fi for messenger and facebook every day, 10-20 minutes of talking. I would say a 15% increase to the stock one.
Guest checkup Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I get about 30-35 hours. Froyo tends to be more battery friendly for me. Depends on the user profile though. I'm using it as mp3 player in bed, putting it in airplane mode over night, because i do not want a radio-station transmitter next to my head :D In car i use bluetooth to connect to my car audio, turning off wifi over the day when not using it. Note about the battery status though: The phone only has one indicator to measure the remaining capacity, which is voltage. So depending on heavy usage or low temperature, this may drop quite fast. Rule of thumb: Don't look at the meter when just unplugging the phone and then using GPS and such, you will not be satisfied just by the numbers. Always measure the consumption over time (days).
