Android memory management more aggressive on 2.2 Froyo?

On the stock 2.1 rom apps stay open for ages, I've come back to Angry Birds many hours later and it's still there - I can have about 15 apps open at a time. On 2.2 I only seem to be able to have a max of ~6 apps open before the first gets killed, and Task Manager shows memory usage to be ~50%. I've seen this on MCR r3 and JJ RLS5.

Is there anything I can do about this? Perhaps FLB will be better?

That's a feature, not a bug. On 2.1 my phone constantly bogged down because of all the apps competing to stay in memory.

If there are specific apps you want to protect, use something like SystemPanel to protect them.

Not having been "constantly bogged down because of all the apps competing to stay in memory" when I was on 2.1, I'd be interested to find a way to increase the threshold. Is the an app or config file I can use?
