I managed to overclock my GT540 to 900Mhz. It's very fast! Scroll down to see the benchmark results.

Firmware version: Cyanogenmod 6.1.1.

Boot version: v1.4

System version: v4.3

Overclocked with: SetCPU 2.04

Yes but what you have set it to there means it will always be running at 900 MHz even when the device is doing nothing. This will kill your battery ridiculously fast.

Yes, I know, but I've applied this setting only for the benchmark.

Just knock your minimum down and your battery life will improve imensely without affecting your benchmark performance. I run at 900/245. I also run a brightness control widget for the screen and have the default set to level 2 of about 8. The combo of those 2 mean that my battery life is actually better now than it was under either 1.6 or 2.1.

Typical use for me and the battery lasts about 36 hours as compared to 24 hours, maybe, before.

I've got the same Kernel and CyanogenMod Version.

Where I get the Information about System and Boot Version?

I downloaded the package from 2January 2011. That is the newest, isn't it?

Tried overclocking with the new 2.2.1 but phone kept chrashing and rebooting ;) . Luckily I managed to stop the overclocking program but not within the 15minutes I had to get my money back.

Weird. I've never had a problem like that.

Thats why you dont use the setting "set on boot" until you are sure its a stable cpu speed.
