Guest bunnymyhoney Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Hi there. Quick one for you guys as my husband is slowly going mental. We both have San Fran's. Mine is on GiffGaff and he is still on O2. I set up his San Fran for him (all done successfully with the exception of MMS which I just cannot get to work at all) - he's on an O2 simplicity sim. My question is: He's just got his bill fromO2 and it's £10 more than usual. He has checked his bill and it is all mobile data, however, he's only been access the web from the handset via the on board wifi. So - How come he's got all this data charged? He's been playing some freebie games he downloaded, but again, he's only had the wifi switched on, not the data connection. Am I right in thinking that you have to actively turn on the data connection (the circle with the 2 arrows in it) for mobile data to be used? I am totally baffled and getting my ear properly bent about it all ...... LOL Any ideas about this would be very much appreciated :D
Guest Arr Too Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 When I first got my SanFran I experienced a similar thing, where I'd set the Data Connection to off but it still tried to use that when it couldn't find a wifi connection. Many apps might attempt to make an internet connection -- usually it's the Google stuff trying to sync your email and other data. In the end I had to go to the extreme of removing the Orange APNs from the phone (not a simple task) as the other techniques (and fixer apps) didn't seem to work. Each ROM seems to handle this situation differently so some people may never have seen this happen, but it definitely happened to me and I was being really careful!
Guest blade2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Hi, Please also mind that the icon with the two arrows in the circle only turns off automatic sync of mail, contacts and so on. The real switch for the data connection is under setings/wireless/mobile networks/data connection. If that one is not sufficient you can also delete the apns in that menu under access point names. In case there are no delete options in the menu, you will have to use an app to delete them. APN backup&restore would do that.

Guest feckineejit Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Hi Thanks for the reply, Just a quick question... It says pay n go but im on a 30day rolling contract. Does that matter? thanks ace Yes sorry don't think they'll work for you then, i thought you were on payandgo. But they are settings on the forum that work with your contract. Just type o2 settings in the search box and it will bring up a few topics.
