Dell Streak rogers 1.6 to US 2.2 how i did it

Seen alot of blogs explaining how to update the android of Dell streak phones from AT&T and O2 but none for the Rogers with build number 7921.

Well i spent some time when i got my new phone to find out how to do it and to my surprise it was hard to find how to but easy to actually do it.

Only to follow 2 different site tutorials to get this done.

1. Follow the last part of the tutorial to get your streak to version 6601 ATT&T

after this phrase "If you just wanted to revert to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then you are done. If you are going to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) we have to change the system so it will upgrade the the AT&T ROM."

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805112

once you got your streak to 1.6 ATT&T build 6601 you must follow a simple tutorial with interactive video and even has a video so you can make it work with your win7 X64 witch alot of tutorials don't help with.

2. Follow this part to the letter and if you have trouble they have a FAQ section and even supply all the files you need.

QDLTool Visual Tutorials (for Windows only)

http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92

In this second part all you have to do in general is set up all your needed drivers and stuff in windows then open the program and press RUN. Just make sure you do all the steps without missing one.

No need to go through the fastboot or recovery menu in this part.

And it gives you Full US version of android 2.2 from a locked version of Rogers android 1.6.

Hope this will help my fellow Canadian Streakers :D

Seems like the long way to do it. Personally I just flashed my Rogers Streak with the 309 recovery image then the 318 (2.2 Froyo) update pkg. Worked like a charm and was easy as pie. Left me with a GAUSB1A131800-US BASEBAND and an OEM VERSION of GAUSB1A130900.

I have got some requests for information on the steps I used to do this so here they are. Don't want to hijack a thread but seeing as how it's related I hope this is alright.

First off get the necessary files and use 318 'NOT' 319 as that's an O2 rom.

309 recovery supplied by Fards is here in the first post":

http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-str...recovery-image/

The official 2.2_318_00 update package is here:

http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProduc...18_12821_00.pkg

Some instructions I found:

(1) Rename the Streak_318_12821_00.pkg to Update.pkg (Should be capital 'U' but if it's not recognized try a lowercase 'u')

(2) Copy the Update.pkg (or update.pkg) to the root of the SD card

(3) Flash recovery via fast boot by doing the following

(Enter fastboot mode by 'holding' both POWER and CAMERA buttons while phone is off, you can release POWER when the DELL logo appears but continue to hold CAMERA. When the white fastboot screen appears tap 'FASTBOOT' in the top corner then plug in your USB cable)

fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img

fastboot -i 0x413c reboot

(4) Reboot into recovery and apply the the Update.pkg

(Enter recovery mode by 'holding' both POWER and VOLUME buttons while phone is off, you can release POWER when the DELL logo appears but continue to hold VOLUME buttons. When the recovery menu screen appears tap the 'Update' option)

(5) Reboot and do a factory reset either from inside the 2.2 settings menu or go back into Recovery Mode and do it from there. (very important to do a factory reset or you may experience odd behaviour)

GOOD LUCK!

UPDATE:

You can also try using this method by Stephen Hyde with the files and instructions listed. I have used this method and it has worked.

I don't think there is a Roger's specific rom/baseband file out there but I suppose you can backup yours using ROM Manager. If not, you should be able to get back to an ATT or O2 1.6 rather easily using the files available in the forums.

I was just wondering if you needed to root the 1.6 Rogers first?

It's simple to do but I am just curious.

Thank you

No, the updating procedure only requires access to recovery mode/fastboot mode, so root is not necessary. If you wanted to make a backup using ROM Manager then I believe that requires root.

I have a stock rogers dell streak 7921.

I tried the instructions below and all I got was a blank screen applying the update.pkg for 20 minutes before I pulled the battery.

Then I started my streak and I was back to 7921.

I don't think that recovery image is the right one. Maybe it was meant for android 2.1.

Using 1.6 rogers 7921 build results in a blank screen after choosing update.pkg from the list in recovery mode. While other stock recovery images shows a progress bar but results in a fota name mismatch error.

Alexmoi and EZ44,

I too have a rogers Canadian locked Dell Streak firmware 1.6, build 7921... are you both happy with, and recommend the upgrade (even though the warranty is done with a manual upgrade rather than waiting), is it suggested to use the official The official 2.2_318_00 update package or go for the StreakDroid 1.7.0 ( aka HD7 Edition )

As my system crashed and reverted back to when I got it new, I now have to either use mybackup pro and put all my apps back in on 1.6 and reconfigure each of the 80 plus programs or upgrade now to something stable (which one?) and then restore all my apps back.

What are your recommendations guys?

Hey. Either one is a good upgrade. The Dell 2.2 is easier to do but DJ Steve 1.7 is a better Rom. I'm currently running the Dell 2.2 322 but will be switching back to 1.7. Too slow:-)

Using the 309 recovery, don't know why it would give any problem. That's the method that worked for me and mine was a rogers-branded Streak with 7921. Try it again.

Thanks for the feedback... I am thinking then that I'll try the 1.7.0 version then.
