Guest billybiro Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Hi all, My San Fran's screen seems to have died. There is no display at all on the screen, although the device appears to boot. :P I've had my San Fran for approx. 1 month. Purchased online from Orange in the UK. It's the TFT screen version. Upon receiving it, I've network unlocked it, loaded ClockworkMod v2.5.0.9 then flashed CustomBladeVillian ROM v1.1.0 (not sure of exact RLS - but would have been latest as at about 10th Dec 2010). Everything has been running super smoothly up until a day or so ago. I tried to wake the phone from sleep with the power button, and the phone appeared to wake in that the buttons (home, menu, back) lit up however the screen was still black. There seems to be power going to the screen, as you can see some amount of backlight when viewing at the right angle, but there's nothing actually displayed on the screen. I removed the battery for a few minutes then replaced. Now, I can boot the device, and everything seems to be working (I eventually even get the noise that indicates the SD Card is mounted upon boot) but the screen remains completely black during all of this. I've tried booting into recovery mode (Vol down), which I think is working, but of course, nothing is displayed on the screen. I've also tried booting into flash mode (Vol Up) and the same thing - there's light on the keys - but nothing on the screen. There's no new mods or apps that have been recently added prior to this starting - the phone's "content" has been the same for a week or more. I've also tried leaving the battery out of the phone over night, leaving the battery in, with and without the charger lead plugged in, clicking the "reset" button in the back of the phone and all combinations thereof - nothing makes my display come back. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a fix? Or is this a hardware issue, and I have to resort to a replacement/repair from Orange? Also, if it's a replacement/repair, does anyone know how I can effectively "wipe" the phone given that I can't see anything on the screen? :D Please help - any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) I believe that your TFT backlight is dead. You can restore to a Custom TPT image. The main TPT we have is from the Hungarian ROM What you need is a TPT install that has the BOOT.img and the RECOVERY.img from the Stock Orange ROM Installing a TPT is done like this : http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...vices-to-512mb/ Basically you make a new directory on your SDCard (image) with a a lot of files in. The Phone gets a very low level reset and the IMG files are written to the device. If you take the Hungarian TPT and replace the boot and recovery IMG files with the ones from the STOCK TFT (orange) ROM, then you can RUN the TPT and fully reset your device. Has anyone else made a OUK TFT - TPT Rom? This would be better than you trying to make one EDIT : I think that the community here is very close to producing TPT recovery's for all devices - this is a natural progression - as the TPT method was only discovered on 1st January Edited January 9, 2011 by StevenHarperUK
Guest PeaNut_HU Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) Little OffTopic but... Dear billybiro! Thank You for first searching, and then posting! Welcome (back) to MoDaCo forums! I've just received a replacement device from Orange, who easily agreed to replace it as it was less that a month old. I did try the TPT method as you suggested. I hope it worked...I couldn't see a thing on the screen, so who knows? :D Here's the really strange thing though. I've just received my replacement phone, it's got a build number of OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08, it has a firmware version of: 2.1-update1 and, most interesting of all, using the ChiperTest dialler code (*983*24474636#) shows it's AN OLED SCREEN!!! (IC: TL2796 - Glass:SAMSUNG). Either I've got a refurb of an older SanFran (it shouldn't be), or ZTE have switched back to OLED screens! Interesting indeed!
Guest simon77 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 I think I may have this problem too. Screen completely dead but I can call the phone and adjust the volume. I take it the point of restoring the orange settings is to just aid returning it?

Samsung haven't shipped OLED glass to ZTE for months.
