I had kept silent for a long time but when the source will be released?

I want OC kernel with my Liquid 2.2!!!!!!!!!!

:D

In another topic we were talking about starting an email campaign to request the source, but then we never got around to it. We should really start bugging them, like with a LOT of emails every day, so maybe they'll be annoyed enough to release it....

Maybe you need to ask somebody inside in the Acer smartphone department :D

hmm…i think they are developing the 2.6.32 kernel for liquid(it is quit irresponsible of acer to release a froyo with 2.6.29 kernel).and stream's froyo kernel is 2.6.29 right?i think it will come together at next update.XD

I do not think they are developing a 2.6.32 kernel, why would they do that when the one they have now works? Even if they are they should relese the current kernel source now because with every release they should provide code. I have sent mesage about this but the response I got was "we have currently not planned this upgrade" , the people who answer support mail are clue less... so I am giving up... maybe if we are lucky we eill get it one day.

Doubt it because hardware is very different (especially processor).

Does the Liquid MT source code help?

Metal kernel is still 2.6.29.

If I go into the link from the post given,it's just an FAQ about "How to change the UI back to Android one."

I am not sure about it :D

We need to get their attention somehow.

If only we can get major news sites like Engadget, Gizmodo, BGR or something to post an article about how Acer is not complying with open source licenses. I don't know. Any ideas?

Well, I just sent an email through here:

http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/ask

Here's what I wrote:

I write to inquire about the release of the Android 2.2 Kernel Sources for the LiquidE smartphone.

To be more precise, I'd like to know when you intend to release them. You are aware, I presume, that by releasing the 2.2 ROM but not the kernel sources you are in violation of the GPL licence?

I hope you aren't violating the GPL on purpose, and that you are working on releasing the source asap.

Sincerely

Feel free to send one too, maybe if enough people complain they will be annoyed enough to release it.

Well, that's why I wrote "I hope you are working on releasing the source asap.". If that's the case, all well and good, but why won't they tell us? Let's see what they reply, on the confirmation email it said they would reply in 24-48 hrs.

Not ready?? if they have built and released a kernel, then they are ready. As I understand it, they should release at the same time they release the rom to follow GPL.

maybe they released buggy beta rom, they know its bugs, working on them, optimising it fo A1, and don't want to release buggy beta kernel?)

on their site there is some "kernel source". everything looks ok))

I think you are WAY too optimistic... and also, if the ROM was good enough to be released, they wouldn''t hold on to the kernel just to "improve" it, what would be the benefit? The 2.1 sources, as our devs know very well, were a fu**ing mess, so I doubt they aren't releasing it because "don't want to release buggy beta kernel" as you put it.

i just dont give a.. faq about this.

if something new released - i'll try it,

if there is no something new - i don't care.

also, i dont need OC and i don't need over 9000 in quadrant.
