Guest Mit321 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I'm sure most of you will know about Grooveshark, if you don't check it out here: Grooveshark Its great on the computer but unfortunately to be able to get it on Android you need to have a Grooveshark Anywhere account which is supposed to cost $9 a month which although cheaper than Spotify I think is still a bit too much. However Grooveshark have a deal on right now that if you buy a TShirt from them they will give you a year of Grooveshark Anywhere for Free and allow you to renew at the cheaper price of $30/ £18 rather than $90. I personally think this is an absolute bargain and really completes the ZTE Blade for me as I can stream my music pretty much anywhere (plus is has offline tracks like spotify). For more explanation please check out the deal I posted over at HotUKDeals Grooveshark Deal and if you have an account please "add heat", its my first deal and no-one seems to like it even though deals about chocolates being a bout £2 cheaper can reach hundreds of degrees :/ Cheers guys
Guest IronDoc Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Yeah decent deal. Dunno why it's not hotter.
Guest Mit321 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Yeah decent deal. Dunno why it's not hotter. Thanks think I posted it at the wrong time so noone saw it before it sunk to the bottom of the pile :/ Oh well if it helps provide a solution to someone on here it doesn't really matter.
Guest monkeyfeatures Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I just use YouTube to stream music. OK, so it's not as good quality and you don't get to make playlists, but it's good enough if you just fancy listening to a particular song and already have a bunch of MP3s and the radio on the phone anyway.
Guest The Soup Thief Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Here's another alternative - well worth a go... Music Mate Android
Guest targetbsp Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Does it actually work on the Blade? Cause the desktop version is flash based...
Guest Mit321 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Does it actually work on the Blade? Cause the desktop version is flash based... Yes you can, it uses an app rather than the flash based website, download the app and try it out, just search for Grooveshark in the Market. You need to have a normal Grooveshark account (made on the Grooveshark site- its free) and then you can trial the app for 50 songs or 14 days (whichever comes first). If you like it enough after that you can subscribe using the deal I posted above.
Guest rbbrslmn Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 grooveshark isnt going to last surely, by the looks of it it operates it complete defiance of any copyright laws. (dont get me wrong. I have no moral stance on this.... its just going to get closed down when it gets big enough, surely?)

Guest Meizirkki Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Perfectly legal it seems: Grooveshark DMCA No, it's not. Most of the music in their service is illegal.. it's like youtube, even if they tried to remove illegal material (which they don't) they couldn't because of users uploading it back all the time. Grooveshark doesn't give a s*** about artists, they just use the "we don't know what users upload to our service" -excuse to make it legal so they can keep their services online. Because of the lacking contracts with artists and record companies, they keep most of the 3/6/9$ to themselves. There's a reason why Spotify is 10€/month. I'm happy to pay it for the excellent service.
Guest shastar Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Music Junk.. Total free and no AD...

I used Spotify for a while but I couldn't listen to songs that I was hearing on the radio etc because they weren't officially released in my country so turned to services like Youtube or Grooveshark. So now I get more songs for free/ a fraction of the price :D
Guest Rotmann Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Here's another alternative - well worth a go... Music Mate Android Music Junk.. Total free and no AD... This is illegal dudes :D
Guest Fi5h Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Maybe not quite the service you want but there are some good internet radio players as well as stations - downside is you don't get to decide what tracks you're playing but it's a good way of discovering new music. I use 'TuneIn Radio' nice clean interface and works well. The ipod version records so I hope that soon comes to Android. http://www.appbrain.com/app/tunein-radio/tunein.player
Guest bingo83 Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Heat added, seems like a decent enough deal.
Guest ricer Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 What about Last.fm, its not quite pick and listen but its internet radio tailored to your music tastes at least. Plus its free

I think you'll find spotify screw musicians just as badly as grooveshark... they gave the record companies shares in the business and the royalties paid to artists is tiny. youtube exists because its owned by google and partly because its providing something that isnt really commercialised anyway, again, I cant see grooveshark lasting especially as it getting more well known. so the years subscription may not be something that lasts the year out.
Guest The Soup Thief Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I added a link here a few days ago to music mate I noticed yesterday that The Google has bought Music Mate and renamed it GTunes ingres Go have a look in the market It's free and rather astounding, though I'm pretty sure it's very uncool from a copyright stance That's The Google!
Guest Alien*46*UK Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I have Grooveshark VIP and Spotify Premium or Pro whatever it's called and tbh, yes Grooveshark is cheaper and with arguably more content, but its not filtered and trying to listen to just one album without most songs doubled or tripled proves very difficult. Spotify is just more polished.

Spotify is just more polished. That's very arguable, I just tried five different albums and it has *some* but not all of the tracks off each - so for example, James Dean Bradfield's The Great Western has only four tracks off the album, same for the other albums I tried. Spotify has all of the albums and all of the tracks, so you get what you pay for...
Guest Alien*46*UK Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Maybe I should of said more artists ... Everyone I've searched has been on grooveshark but the odd one not on spotify. I agree about tracks with grooveshark, but that can be both ways ... I'll happily use both tbh ... I pay $3/month for grooveshark so not much point cancelling it when it's useful now nd again ... but spotify gets the most use.

Spotify is just more polished. I know what you mean about that. Though I tend to have a few general playlists which I change on my computer and stuff and then just use Grooveshark Anywhere to stream them so don't have a problem with doubled up songs. However I would say for me anyway that I have found more content on Grooveshark than Spotify. If a new album comes out in the US but not the UK I can't listen to it untill its officially released in the UK, whereas with Grooveshark I can listen to stuff basically as soon as I hear about it on the radio/youtube
Guest hedgepigdaniel Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I don't know if it fits your needs because I know its not the same thing as what you asked about, but I've been using subsonic now and its been very good. It indexes your music library and serves it via a web interface or free apps for iphone/android (the android one is similar to the stock music player). To use mobile streaming after a month the minimum "Donation" is 10 Euro.
