Guest Touch Graphite Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I see from device lists in many of your Avatars that alot of people here seem to own these 2 devices, and being one of them, who am I to argue!? Anyway, to convince those that havent taken the plunge and going android with their mobile device, lets try and get some hints and tips up on what you find useful (in the ways of sync'ing) or picking up where you left off' sort of speak between these 2 devices. San Fran sales could go up if theres a neat trick solved by these 2 devices. Im sure that explaining a nifty trick that you find useful when moving from the home (vega) to on the move (desire) could be shared to those that havent closed that loop yet. One main use of this is 'Chrome to phone' which before it was invented, didnt even invisage who useful this app is! One thing that Id like for someone to close up is the calendar on the desire and the calendar used through LP widgets, how can these 2 be sync'ed successfully so entries are brought across!? One thing that Id like to share is that the 'Android manager' app works through the wifi sharing app on the desire so if your without a wifi network to sync your vega to your laptop, use your froyo enabled phone as a router, it works! Who knows what apps can be brought out of these 2 devices being used. Maybe a remote control on the desire controlling the vega connected to the TV via HMDI. That would be tight.
Guest Ter4a Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I was just thinking about the same Lot of people are having these 2 devices...
Guest CalumD Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Got both devices as well, still working out best situations to use them in e.g. Vega for web browsing, Desire for quickly checking stuff and apps not designed for tablets :D
Guest jamesdisco Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I've got both devices, must be a popular combination.

Wouldn't it be simplest to have your calendars (and mail, tasks and contacts) synced using a (free) exchange account? My calendars are always synced between my Desire and Mobii 10 (vega)...
Guest ashbash Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I havent really seen any app or anything that links the 2 devices that well, the only bits I like to link are GPS via BT and Internet via Hotspot .... other than that ... bleh nothing really special? ... or am I missing something? A
Guest Lennyuk Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I currently have a Desire Z, I use the hotspot to give my vega "3g" all the time, works great. My next plan is to look into a way to use my z's hard keyboard to type on the vega, I think probably through use of some wifi keyboard app (unless anyone has any other suggestions?)
Guest beaker656 Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I too have both, but have all my mail, calendars and contacts sync'd using google. For ease at work I use the Google calender sync tool on my work laptop which sycs all my work items to my google calender. Then I can create and modify items from either my vega or desire and it gets sync'd back onto my work laptop. All 3 items are in sync and as I pretty much have at least 1 item with me I can keep them upto date.

Guest Bobbler Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Come renewal time I will be ditching my Iphone and moving to whatever top Android phone is about at that time - looking very good for the future with high res displays and very fast processors (IIRC there's a Tegra2 powered device in the pipeline?) Really loving the "hack" experience of the Vega, customisation and the like - makes me more happy than just using the device, more than half the fun is doing the other bits outside of making phone calls!

Guest godinandroid Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I've just got a desire hd and it is brilliant so far, one thing tho. Is there a version of BBC that'll let me control the Vega from the phone? It'd be really cool to be able to plug the Vega into my tv and then play a film or browse to iplayer using the desire.

Can you describe how? Ive got alot automated entries on my google calendar on my desire via facebook birthdays. Do these transfer also? Can the LP calendar be tied into google calendars!? This would make the widget worth it.

You update one device with new entries etc and it updates on the other device. it syncs via google calender so you can access your calender on any pc and make changes too.... Not sure about automated entries though.
Guest Sir Gash Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) Some answers to a few questions: Calendar Sync I only use Google calendars so this is easy for me. Just make sure you check Settings > Accounts & Sync > firstly enable Auto-Sync then tap your Google Account and ensure Sync Calendar is selected. This way I can update multiple calendars on my Vega, Desire or via PC at https://www.google.com/calendar and they are all in sync Remote keyboard I have only used this to use my PC keyboard on the Vega over Wi-Fi: http://www.appbrain.com/app/sharekeyboard-...e.sharekeyboard It is very simple to use, on the Vega just select the appropriate input method then point a browser on your PC to the address that is shown on screen and type away! Although I haven't tried, it should work on the Desire's browser too to control the Vega. PRO-TIP: If you want to use this keyboard app on a PC via USB instead of Wi-Fi, you can if you have ADB installed, just type: adb forward tcp:8000 tcp:8000 Then on your PC, point your browser to http://localhost:8000/ instead of the address shown by the app for it to work. Remote video controls Not tried this yet but I'll find something ;) In the meantime, there is the YouTube Remote app which will let you control YouTube on your phone to play on another device or PC if signed on and using http://www.youtube.com/leanback It is a shame that droid VNC Server doesn't work on the Vega as that would be ideal :) Edited January 17, 2011 by Sir Gash
