Guest McSpoon Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Whilst it is true the XOOM tablet won't support SD cards, I get the impression that Honeycomb will still be able to support it for older devices. The XOOM has an internal 32GB of storage which effectively acts as the SD card because Android currently only supports 1 shared storage drive. (It seems that /data and /ExternalDrive will both be mapped to that internal 32GB). Presumably GoogleTV and other tablets with a large internal storage capacity will do similar as Android begins to move away from it's reliance on SD cards. If the Vega was to get Honeycomb then it would still use the SD card because it doesn't have enough internal storage to do anything different. Eventually the Android team will find a good way of supporting multiple storage drives but we may have to wait for Android 3.1+ for that. At least Motorola have still included the SD card hardware so us geeks can find clever workarounds to utilise it in the meantime.
Guest obb Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Really can't see Google releasing honeycomb without microsd support somehow.
Guest Lennyuk Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Really can't see Google releasing honeycomb without microsd support somehow. While more and more manufacturers may decide to drop sd card support on their specific devices, I really can't see google dropping it from the OS
Guest wobblydoggy Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 MicroSD compatability is one of the most renowned advantages over an apple device....
Guest ben0 Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I would have thought support for the hardware is provided by the kernel, with only eject/insert/mount/unmount/fs provided by software?
