Guest jurrasstoil Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Looking for an app that can stop adverts in free apps? Adfree :D Edited January 11, 2011 by jurrasstoil
Guest Nebbo Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I love adfree, in my experience it also helps to give quicker adfree Internet browsing. It's also free :D
Guest goatee Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Adfree :D Of course, the more people that use this, the fewer apps are ad supported hence are not free any more. . . Of course the fact that your phone needs to be rooted reduces the number of people who can use it, but still. . .
Guest zurpher Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Of course, the more people that use this, the fewer apps are ad supported hence are not free any more. . . Of course the fact that your phone needs to be rooted reduces the number of people who can use it, but still. . . I use it because currently add-code in quite some Android third-party apps do sniff out private data. An add-blocker is one way to reduce that problem so I hope.
Guest That-Guy Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I have used AdFree in the past but for some reason it blocks the stats part of the Wordpress App.

Of course the fact that your phone needs to be rooted reduces the number of people who can use it, but still. . . AdFree removes most ads in the browser and other apps. It does this by nullifying requests to known hostnames serving ads. so just to check, Adfree does not allow an app to contact the hostnames serving adverts, i thought it worked the other way round, requests from the hostnames are ignored, but the app still requests.
Guest Ash_P Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 so just to check, Adfree does not allow an app to contact the hostnames serving adverts, i thought it worked the other way round, requests from the hostnames are ignored, but the app still requests. It basically updates your host files, to and points all the known adservers to 127.0.0.1. Apps still request the data, but DNS would resolve it to the loopback address so the connection won't work.
Guest Lew247 Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I used to use it but some of the 2.2 roms seem to ignore it and let the ads through
Guest Teh H4rRy Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I used to use it but some of the 2.2 roms seem to ignore it and let the ads through I too have found this, It needs an update to work with 2.2
Guest BArtNimal Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I too have found this, It needs an update to work with 2.2 works fine on 2.2 for me. just remember to restart the app after flashing an upgrade rom or after restoring it with titanium.
Guest Raspa Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Of course, the more people that use this, the fewer apps are ad supported hence are not free any more. Sounds good to me, time to get as many people as poss using it!
Guest Plxply Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Although this may seem simple, you need to restart you phone too. If you've previously launched an application that has requested the IP of the server hosting the advertising then your phone will cache it and not bother to look within the HOSTS file beforehand, therefore the best way to do it is to restart your phone.
