I have a problem where i receive default mms only in very very low res , i am on o2 !!!

done some searching and i found this , regarding o2 mms for small res pictures !!

" Android doesn't identify the handset to the network properly, the network sends MMS images at the default tiny size. At present there is no easy fix for it, but that might change in the coming months as more Android phones hit the market."

then i found this , the interesting bit is about sending out the phones ID to o2 , and someone sent the id of a N95 to receive full res pictures , any idea anyone ? how do you change the phones ID ??

" I've heard a similar, but slightly different, story. One that places the blame back at O2's feet. I've heard that because they don't have the phone's ID on their systems it's sending out the default pic size. Some people have managed to copy the ID that a Nokia N95 sends, make their Hero give out that ID, and then they've received full size pictures. If that's the case then O2 just need to update their systems to recognise the Hero."

many thx for the reply , but i have all them settings and I can send mms perfectly , but the problem is , when i receive them they are very very low res , and at 25kb which is pethetic !!

I just spoke to a o2 rep online chat and he confirmed o2 donot recognise my handset " ZTE BLADE" as a mobile and therefore only default 25kb pictures will be sent to your phone !!

I am now going to call o2 tech desk to get this ( hopefully) sorted ,

If not its bye bye o2 !!

It's the mms app in the blade,

There was a post in early dec that had a different mms app you simply pushed it into /system/apps to replace the stock mms app and it makes the pictures a decent size

Edit: Found it after a search of my files, I downloaded it myself

attached here to save you looking

it's not a huge improvement but the pictures are definitely a lot bigger now.

It HAS to be pushed into /system/apps either using ADB or Android Commander, you cannot install it

extract the app from the zip file.

Handcent has an option to spoof the UserAgent to get around this, but I can't for the life of me find it in Handcent on my Blade.

The wife has a Wildfire with the same version of Handcent, and it's there under 'Receive Settings'

My guess is that the WAP/MMS server is not recognising the useragent string sent by the blade, and is reducing the picture to Lego soup as a result.

As far as I'm aware changing the Mms.apk only affects mms so it shouldn't but I can't guarantee it - try it and see

You should save your original Mms.apk before pushing the new one on, then if you don't like it simply swap it back again

Press search, then more search options

put ADB in the search box

tick search titles only in the search where section

choose ZTE Blade in the section if you wish or just choose Android to search all of the Android forums

I searched just the ZTE Blade section and there are many many results on how to get ADB and get it working, what it does etc

here is just one of those results

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...rivers-and-adb/

I could tell you the simplest answer on what it is/where to get it and how to push the file onto your phone

but you won't learn that way - read up on it what it is and how it works, you'll be able to do so much more with your phone once you know (and realise how simple it is)

btw Android Commander is similar to ADB in some ways, but its a windows interface so simple to work, it doesn't do all that ADB does though so it is beneficial to read up and learn to use ADB

Edit: a good place to start for all people would be this thread http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...s/#entry1543405

I think this option is only available on phones running Donut

Maybe, and eclair. The missus is running 2.1u1. I'll be upgrading it to 2.2 shortly so I'll see if the option is still there.

pushed your Mms file into /sys/apps with ABD , file went in fine , but desired results didnt work , and had to do a nandroid restore !!!

Ah well back to the drawing board :D

Should have worked, because I actually tried it before I posted to make certain it was the right file and sent myself an mms message to make certain and the picture was a normal size not postage stamp

after applying the Mms.apk using adb to sf last night

I re-booted mobile, then sent a mms to myself , it sent ok , but i didnt didnt receive it , 1 hour later i get a text from o2 ,

" sorry we donot support your mobile device , to view the picture go to www.***** and enter this code to view it"

So looks like they have completly blocked other users sending mms to my sf now as they "dont support it" :-(

My contract is up next month and i will leave them for giffgaff !!!

STU o2 !!
