Sending text messages to multiple contacts

Hi,

I have a Stock Acer Liquid S100 (uk) on 2.1. Does anyone know if there is an option so that it makes it possible to send text messages (SMS) to multiple contacts from the phone book, and be able to select the contacts from a list. At the moment the only option I have is to write the persons name in the "TO" field, which only lets me send to a handful of people as the bar fills.

Would a custom 2.2 Rom allow this?

(sorry I am a complete Newbie and even though I've spent about 3 hours reading various posts on this forum I'm struggling to get my head round the advantages of custom roms etc.....)

If you download Handcent from the Market, you can send to multiple contacts from a check list.

Handcent SMS is a very good messaging application for various uses.
