Guest DaveSk Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I love my Vega but the screen problems mean it has to go back. Curry's are being a nightmare to deal with and I have no idea when Ill be able to get a replacement. I basically like everything about the vega except the viewing angles and the faulty screen. Is there anything similar? Samsung tab thing looks good but 7" might not be qute enough. No ipad thanks.
Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 You'll just have to wait for the next few months until all the new tablets shown at CES are out with Android 3.0 Motorola Xoom is one to watch out for - but no idea when it will reach the UK shores and at what price. its a Tegra2 based tablet with pretty much the same specs as the vega, hopefully a better screen for viewing angles - only down side is there's no microsd to increase storage.
Guest warriorscot Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Not really until the Adam tablet starts to appear for sale but the pricing on it in the UK isn't fixed although it is supposed to cost the same in every market apparently it will depend on how hard it gets hit with import tax and any bumps the retailers make. Any other tablets that are equivalent to the vega (eg 10.1" Tegra powered) are going to be P10AN01 copies like the vega so it won't really change anything for you.
Guest DaveSk Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Thanks guys! Hopefully the Vega will be in stock before any of those developments so I guess its another Vega. Don't know if I can face checking the curry's website 5 times a day until they come back into stock like I did before Christmas though...
Guest andrewdolphin Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 The Currys website is taking orders again NOW!
Guest DaveSk Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 The Currys website is taking orders again NOW! :D :P B) Cheers! Got my replacement - all I have to do now is try to get Currys to collect the dodgy one! Cheers, you have made my day!
Guest swollox Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 had to back my vega to pcworld as the on/off button stopped working, fortunately it wasn't a fight. wonder what they'll make of the r6+performance pack with LPP when they fire it up :D just checked currys = all gone :P

Jinkies - i did a search for pricing on the Xoom and read this: http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-compu...s-to-720-920517 HandTec is the first technology retailer to whack a Motorola Xoom pre-order page up, but its price has already rocketed from £660 to £720. Screengrabs taken earlier this morning show the price as £659.99 on the Xoom product page, but it now clearly shows the pre-order price as £719.99. even though it doesnt have a barometer, the resolution or the storage I'll stick with the Vega! its the same thing!

Guest emergant Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 That's crazy money for a tablet .... Glad I went for the Vega now :D Think they're trying to outdo Samsung Apple and Samsung. I guess the price will fall soon enough if they want to sell more than a dozdn. Im most interested in the Adam if it can live uptown the hype and is rootable

The big reason I got the vega was the price wasn't overly inflated, I would have paid an extra £50-70 to get a better screen in it if necessary but even as is it is fine for me for what I do with it. Personally I just wouldn't pay over £500 for a tablet as at the end of the day its supposed to be a handy easy to use portable computer so its going to take a lot of wear and tear and risks of damage and loss compared to a laptop or desktop so paying that much seems stupid to me.
Guest swollox Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) You should really wipe a vega if you send it back technically a custom rom can void your warranty not to mention it can have personal data on it. i know... but i couldn't switch the thing on to wipe it or remove email accounts etc :P best I could do was "forget" to return the SD card in case that held personal data (emails, acct passwds). fortunately neither could "the tech guys" at my local store switch it on to see the custom rom. hopefully they like what I did when they fix it :D my £249.99 is already credited back to my card so hopefully i wont get any come back. can anyone tell me if email acct passwords are stored in a visible format on the vega. i cant remember what was displayed (text or asterisks) from when I set it up & wondering if i should change my email passwds? also any ideas on stock position for these? checkings currys/pcw/dixons sites is getting boring! ta, s Edited January 13, 2011 by swollox

I might do the same and buy another one online as the screen is doing my head in as well. Edited January 13, 2011 by carl rose

Agreed with that, £250 was a punt on something I fancied (mainly coz I wanted a cheap tablet to hack around with), other than the screen being a little poor on the viewing angles and the touch recognition being a little patchy on edges (it doesn't bother me now as I know exactly how to hold it the spec is good for the money and I don't think there is an alternative that offers any more for the money. £500 is a new laptop for me, I could never warrant paying that for a tablet thats used for casual browsing and a few apps/games never mind £650 for an xoom(even though that is pure tabletgasm lol)

I sawyou first video and the problem were the same as mine. Thanks in advance Will let you know as soon as I've had a play with it. The other video was someone else's (i just linked to it). Not sure how easy it will be to make a video but I'll try to knock something up on my phone if any problems with it.

OK, new Vega is here and the first thing I did was install multitouch visualiser.... wait for it.... same problem. :D Having said that, it doesnt seem quite as bad as the last one. I'm typing this on it and there hasn't been any double spaces yet as far as I can tell, which was the main problem with the last one. In faact, just had couple of double spaces. I'll install a better keyboard and the pauls mod later when i have finished work and take it for a real test run. Disappointed? Yes. Will I be keeping it? We'll see. Really could do with official word from Advent on this problem.

Mine is being picked up Friday by Dixons for this too.. The reason I think it's EMC is that I had a couple of tiny deadspots (Bottom/bottom left) and just around these areas, the touch input shows as extrememly jittery, if I plug in the AC Adapter, then I get more deadspots and more jitter accross more of the screen.. clearly there is some interfence of the analogue signals on the touchscreen before it gets in to the controller. I guess if it wasn't right where the keyboard overlays and affects typing, it'd be liveable with, but as it is, I'd rather it didn't do it at all..
Guest Higgsy Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 i wonder if that magnetic flap that covers the usb port etc could be causing probs

The jitter I get from the power being plugged in is a wobble. It rarely actually loses contact, it's as if you keep you finger in contact with the screen while you wobble it around loads. The jitter from the bottom of the screen I get is as if it is losing contact, It's almost as if you are tapping the screen repeatedly at great speed. Additionally, plugging it into you PC with USB fixes the power wobble but doesn't effect the dead area on the screen. I've just had another 5 minutes with multitouch visualiser and I have to say this one seems to be a fair bit better than the last. Not sure how that will actually translate to normal use though. I'll find out tonight when I can put some time into it hopefully
Guest DaveSk Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Has anyone confirmed that they have one that is 100% without this fault?
