Guest BashyUK Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 You guys seen this? Basically means if you use an EXT for apps only (as in a2sd+), then you don't have to, you can have the whole sd card as FAT32, flash any ROM, with or without a2sd+ (as a2sd+ script will only run if it sees EXT, otherwise nothing happens) and still enable all apps to be moved to SD! Nice :D Obviously if you want data on sd as in data2sd, dat2ext, dat2whatever, reiserfs etc then you still need the EXT. http://www.appbrain.com/app/move2sd-enable...installlocation

This looks to be moving only apps, and apptosd+ also dalvik cache, or not? Do you consider it as better due to not needed ext partition on SD? thx
Guest bpivk Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Do you know the problem of installing apps to FAT? It's the fact that they are usually unable to run when you connect the phone with the PC. Then you get errors, mounting problems, missing widgets, etc... Maybe this app doesn't experience that kind of problems but I'm not ready to try it. Besides I think that /data/data and dalvik cache use more memory than just the apps themselves (except some big apps like major games and GPS software).

I didn't realise that's what happens when you install to FAT32. I might try it just to see what happens. Can always nandroid backup if it flops. Have to say though if that is a problem then surely the standard option of moving to sd via froyo is flawed then? I've been advised this option is also in Spare Parts app, you just set the option to external instead of auto. And to the other poster yes the advantage i saw in this was that you free up your ext space as FAT32.
Guest hongkongtom Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 is this the same as this? http://androinica.com/2010/08/03/how-to-in...roid-2-2-froyo/

Well FAT partition gets unmounted when you connect the phone to a PC so I don't have to tell you what happens to programs that are running at that time. No. I suspect that some programs (the ones that use the native implementation) are just fine because they aren't running in the background so they don't cause problems. Problems would mainly cause widgets and other software that is running constantly. In my case it was Wavesecure, Gmail notify and some other programs.
Guest EddyOS Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Yeah this is nothing new, it's just forcing the stock FroYo A2SD to move all apps to the SD card. Screws up widgets, though
