re-root phone?

Recommended Posts

-i unrevoked (rooted) my htc desire and installed modaco r8 desire rom on my HTC Desire 1/2yr ago

-the phone has recently been playing up and now, i want a clean install

Are the following steps correct:

1) titanium backup

2) ??use unrevoked to root again (to update clockworkmod - currently 2.5.0.7)

3) upload new modaco rom to sd card

4) reboot phone into clockworkmod recovery

5) wipe data/factor reset + wipe cache partition

6) install zip from sd

ALSO:

would like to double check that these instructions (http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/308415/how-to-set-up-sd-card-for-a2sd/) are still valid if i intend to use a2sd

Thanks

You don't need to root again. I would do the following:

1) Titanium Backup (or MyBackup Root, I find this is better personally but either is fine).

2) Copy the new ROM (the one you want to flash) onto your SD card.

2) Reboot into (ClockworkMod) recovery.

3) nandroid backup (just in case something goes drastically wrong), i.e. "backup and restore" - "Backup".

4) Full wipe: "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", "Wipe Dalvik Cache" (under "advanced").

5) Flash the new ROM: "install zip from sdcard" - "choose zip from sdcard".

I couldn't find on that thread exactly which instructions you are referring to, but the process should not have changed. Personally I prefer to just use GParted on Linux (you can use a live distro if you're on Windows) to make the required partitions. Backup anything on your memory card first though as it's likely to wipe the data.

If you've partitioned your memory card correctly, it should automatically install apps to the sdcard, yes. :D

There are ways of confirming that A2SD is properly set up but I can't remember off the top of my head (something to do with checking the directory listings and ensuring the symbolic links were there I think).
