googlequicksearchbox - Force Close

Ever since I upgraded to r6 I've been experiencing Force Closes of the googlequicksearchbox process.

It is most prevalent when using Dolphin HD I can type the start of a url in the box and pick the result from the bar above the keyboard, however if I want to type the whole url in 9 times out of 10 it will Force Close, leaving me to type in www.google.co.uk and then typing the required url in the google search box on their page.

I have Launcher Pro, Dolphin HD and a lot of other apps, but I can't recall when this behaviour began.

I've searched a lot looking for answers but so far nothing.

Would be useful if you tell us what URL you are typing in so we can try and replicate your fault. I've got virtually the same set-up as you but without Launcher Pro installed and I cannot get it to go wrong yet so let us know which site and we can all try :D

Heh.

It happens on loads of urls, but picking one at random www.facebook.com causes it, as does www.tvtorrents.com

Tried those without any problems.

Another suggestion .... reset the browser settings by going to settings menu ADVANCED SETTINGS > RESET TO DEFAULT then do a hard reboot of the Vega and see if that fixes the issue

A very good suggestion, but I'm afraid it didn't work.

I may reflash r6, perhaps cook a slightly different ROM in the kitchen.

Might be location attempt, try starting fake location and see if that helps...

Hi

I can get the same force closes as you with the Quick Search widget - same set up too (r6, Dolphin, LauncherPro etc) and I also don;t know when it started, as I really didn't use that box very often.

After upgrading to R5 or R6, I also got FC's with Google Search. I just went to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Search and cleared everything, data, cache and defaults. Rebooted for good measure and never had an FC since.

Thanks - I'll give that a try when I get home...

Looks like my Google Search application is toasted, all buttons greyed out, no data, unable to do anything with it.

I tried putting the google search widget on one of my screens and it just FCs all the time, I suspect it's time for a rebake.

I deleted the data and removed the widget.

When re-adding the widget I noticed that I had two in the widget selection list, "Google Search" and "Search". I selected Google Search (the one where the is a choice screen next) and that seems to be OK.

Cheers

Update on this.

I reflashed the newest Advent ROM, loaded a new kitchen baked ROM and all problems seem to have gone, I'm still bringing some of my apps online but fingers crossed it's all sorted now.
