Hi guys my Vega came with the latest flash image already installed. I managed to install the custom ROM (excellent thanks ) and then downloaded several google apps. One was a recovery app or something similar, I cannot check as my vega is white screened. I clicked this app and with in seconds it said it was going into restore or recovery or safe mode one of those and then the screen went white. Reading your columns I tried to reflash it with the latest vega 1.06 image but I just get usb device not found.

my computer runs windows 7. I get 3 usb roots. I have uninstalled them searched for new hardware and I get the 3 usb roots back. Nothing showing Nvidia. I have update one of the usb root drivers and now have android bridge. However when I try to reflash I still get usb device not found. Help please.

Hi Nigel,

There have been numerous problems using recovery apps and the Vega. Many of us including myself have had similar problems getting the PC to see the Vega.

I had particular problems with Windows 7 64 bit, so much so that I resorted to an XP machine I luckily still have and after uninstalling everything under USB drivers and then

plugging in Vega after restart, I did get the XP PC to recognise Vega, replaced drivers with Pauls and then flashed the rom to the Vega.

You may notice the Vega recognised as a phone; that's ok, mine was and still worked ok.

I believe some have had success with Windows 7 32 bit machines so might be worth a look. I think some have bypassed the Command prompt method and just double clicked on the install-windows.bat.

You will get it working, but might take using an XP machine and/or looking at the way others have managed the problem.

Below is the way "debs626" flashed the rom and I think she used a win 7 32 bit machine:

I was having a few probs at first, this is how I managed it

right clicked on ADB in device manager and updated drivers manually (needed to extract the usb drivers for them to be recognised)

Navigated to the "install-windows.bat" right clicked on it and selected "run as administrator"

few seconds later my tablet rebooted

Hope it helps.

Regards, Steve

Have you tried just rebooting the machine? Hold down the power button for 5 sec to force power off, it sounds like to just rebooted into recovery.

Still struggling. I take it adb is android bridge. ? I update the driver with all 4 options. But the flash image I have downloaded just has a run option even if you try opening it. Can I just try reflashing the Modaco Rom ? cheers

I did just flash modaco rom, but previously had latest from "myadventvega" installed. I believe you are a recent buyer so it may already be on yours. Give it a go.

Also have you access to an XP machine, a friend maybe? Most have used these to flash roms, etc ADB IS the android bridge

EDIT: also, if you wait a bit, those users who are at work will be helping you i'm sure when they login, there are some very savvy guys and gals on here.

Check out bazzlad posts if you can, he helped me out before.

Like I said before keep at it you'll get it sorted and then like a lot of us here, at the moment, steer clear of recovery apps until a foolproof method is posted.

Cheers

If it was me, I'd just reflash it with the stock Advent 1.06.05 from the main http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/ site.

To do this, you need to get the device into the stock 'firmware recovery/boot mode'.. Note that if you are getting any ADB Device showing up in windows, the Vega is not in the stock firmware boot/recovery mode, it's passed that stage and booted into Android, to do this.,

1. ensure the Tablet is plugged into the mains

2. Press the power button for 10 seconds (ensures it's off)

3. Hold the Back button (rightmost top button) for 2 seconds

4. Whilst still holding the Back button, also press the Power button for 2 seconds,

5. Still holding the back button, release the power button, keep the back button held for 2 seconds longer.

In windows, it should find a completely different device, this is the NVidia Harmony something or other, nothing at all to do with Android/ADB or whatever.

The driver for this, is found on http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/ and it's a case of getting windows to use that driver rather then any it automatically finds

Once it has this, you'll see an NVidia device in device manager, then run the official 1.06.05 executable, it will just connect and program the device back to factory..

Thanks for that but thats basically what I have been trying to do. I think the app I pressed put it in permanent recovery mode and I cannot seem to get out of that. I have downloaded the flash usb and the latest 1.06.05 . Windows just does not find any NVidia device though for me to update the driver.

I simply get three seperate USB roots showing when I look for new hardware and no NVidia to be found anywhere. I think this is the problem.

If you see the backlight come on, it's too late, you've gone past recovery. Power it off and try again. If you see any USB devices except either APX, with an exclamation mark, or NVida Harmony Recovery Driver, it's too late. Power it off and try again. The appearance of APX or NVidia bah blah is the only indication that you are in recovery. When you are in recovery, you will see nothing on the Vega. If you see anything, you need to try again. If you see APX, right click it, select Update Driver and browse to the drivers from Advent, NOT the ones from Paul's pack.

Many, many people have been in your situation, including me. You will get there. Just keep trying. Top tip is to leave it for half an hour, get a beer, and try again. Beer definitely helps. Experience from others suggests the brand of beer makes no difference but I find Theakstons Old Peculiar works wonders.

Seriously, try, try and try again. It will come to you.

Good luck

Cheers

Hint: you need the Advent Vega usb drivers to flash the official ROM, not tha adb drivers...

Thanks to all who posted. Finally got there ,clearly wasn't in recovery mode. Like the one post said, you have to persevere, I dont know why but nothing seems to work first time. Great support from members thanks again.

I guess 2 seconds is just too long...

;)

I always use 1 second between button-presses and it works every single time!

Happy to hear its ok Nigel.

I'm on Windows 7 64bit. I just installed the USB drivers manually, worked fine for me. PC see's my Vega every time i connect now.

I'm not sure why it's happening, but my XP PC sees my Vega, makes correct noises and shows up ok in device manager USB drivers, but now when I try updates e.g. adb push" XXXXX", it's giving me the device not found error in the command line.

I tried "adb devices" in command line but came up with none, so not being seen, even though PC beeps when vega connected etc.

So uninstalled all usb drivers, restarted PC reinstalled Pauls vega drivers. Still no go, even though when I plug in vega it beeps and shows in device manager every time. Even resorted to official advent usb drivers and older usb drivers, back and forth to no avail.

Debugging on, vega in slave etc.

Can't work it out.

Any ideas guys?

All I was trying to do was push bootanimation.zip

Cheers

Steve
