Guest blueadrian Posted February 10, 2003 Report Posted February 10, 2003 I want to use the smartphone as a modem for connecting to the GPRS for my laptop whilst out and about. I have found the posts relating to the settings on the SPV itself, set it to active, and put it on the cradle. The laptop recognises the device as usual, but I have no drivers for the modem on the laptop. It is XP, and if I try the device manager and look on the cd for the driver i just get a blank box back. Orange said "Yes, it doesnt work" - great help. Anyone got a USB port driver for modem ? Adrian Jones
Guest Bazz Posted February 10, 2003 Report Posted February 10, 2003 There is a driver on the supplied CD, but guess what: it don't work! Presumably MS are going to update it at some point but they haven't said much yet. Some other people have posted that they've got it working. Not sure if this is through GPRS or normal dial since I only skimmed the posts. Have a search. Barry

Guest SmartphoneFrance Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 You can use your SPV like USB modem :) ... with Danish update ... See here : http://www.smartphonefrance.info/modem-usb.asp
Guest Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Hi, You have to make sure that you have the latest patches applied to windows (check the microsoft site and upload the latest patches). Then when you place the pohone in line with the IR window on the PC/Laptop (the current UK phones do not yet communicate as a modem via the USB) and activate the modem on the phone. The PC will then recognise the modem and connect WITHOUT having to set it up using device manager or "add new hardware". Mine now communicates fine. Steve Birchall
Guest PaulF Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Hi birchall Sounds great (using the modem via IR Link) What OS are you using - will it work on W98SE ???? Paul
Guest Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Hi, I am not sure about W98 SE but I can only suggest that you download the latest patches in any case as they fix lots of bugs (does windows have bugs, surely not !) and most of them improve the security of the system, so it is worth that alone. I am sure that someone with a bit more knowledge of Windows than me can give you a simple yes or no answer but as I say, download the latest patches anyway and try it . I did get a surprise in that when I connected it said that it was at 115K but I think this cannot be true, this must have been the speed of the IR connection not the modem speed (but it did clearly indicate the modem speed as 115K) Cheers Steve B
