Guest chiman rao Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 hi A complete Newbie question: I have a HTC Legend with 2.2 update from HTC on it. The phone has not been rooted. I have downloaded the Android 2.3 source and built it. How do I install this OS Image? I work on a ubuntu 10.04 based system. Regards chimanrao
Guest Keiter Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Not heard too much about firmware of 2.3, I think it's much better to upgrade to 3.0. Also hope any one can help find the sources...

Fact, 3.0 designed for Tablets mainly. they can be ported to mobile devices but not recommended. so pointless for such a phone,i.e. small screen. my desire HD feels strange having it. gingerbread which is 2.3 is for mobile devices and is the latest. hi A complete Newbie question: I have a HTC Legend with 2.2 update from HTC on it. Regards chimanrao you will need to root. i will send you a link to cyanogen wiki, cyanogen roms are mainly AOSP with a few extra codes. they have a guide to root and im sure if you've built the rom you can test it out. you need a custom recovery btw while rooting. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?titl...ll_Update_Guide that is a detailed root guide i believe. once you've installed a custom recovery, most likely clockworks mod recovery from rom manager you are set to try out your rom. this recovery allows you to create a nand backup to restore the nand to a firmware that you created a back up off if a rom you are working with/creating has issues to go back to an operable rom. is your rom from source in a update.zip format? and does it include an updater script? etc etc. if it isn't i recommend you try create it like that. if you would like to see how 2.3.x (x being the latest google version, which i believe to be 3 atm) then try out one of the nightly builds for the ledgend of cyanogen mod. http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-legend click on nightly on that page. what this rom is, a build of the latest source of cyanogen git. including certain fixes. the rom differes from AOSP with a few extra features as mentioned above, namely things like using adw launcher instead of launcher 2 from source but those extras can easily be put into the rom. but like i said its mainly to give you an idea. and not to stop you from developing. infact i wish you all the best with your build if you need fixes you can ask but most likely it would be available on their source tree, thats IF you require assistance. you how ever might be very capable with your coding  peace
