Installing Clockworkmod and staying safe

I want to have the recovery option, but I am fed up of reinstalling everything when it seemingly inevitably goes wrong.

Is there something I can do which will ensure it doesn't happen again? (other than not installing CWM)

well the only real fix other than not using CWM is to try the new bootloader, however everyone on this message board seems to say it fails, everyone on modaco irc though seems to say it worked, I will try it myself tomorrow.

Can't we use Rom Manager???

Download the zip file direct to your Vega and use root explorer to locate file, Rom Manager should then, when three file name is pressed, identify it and install the rom.

This its only a theory and I haven't tested yet, but when I downloaded the Usb switcher widget Rom manager kicked in when I clicked on the zip file and gave me several options that made me believe it would work.....

Just my 2 pence:

Installed CWM using adb, no problem.

Installed CWM using Rom Manager, would not go into recovery.

Reflashed to stock and installed R6

Installed CWM using Rom Manger, would not go into recovery using Rom Manager or the new 'Recovery' icon in R6.

Installed CWM using adb, no problem.

So in short: Never had a problem using CWM when installing via adb, as per the original thread on here for installing CWM.

Hope this helps

My problem is that for whatever reason I can t get adw to see my Vega on my Vista 32bit laptop..... It sees my Dell Streak and I can adw to that device but not my Vega........ ;)

The main problem with clockworkmod isn't failing to boot into recovery - it is that at some random point in the future you may get the black-screen-of-death when rebooting, even if you did install using adb.

I've had CWM installed 4 times here. Each time, I've installed via the adb method and each time it has crashed when rebooting within a day. I know someone on here suggested that it was user error, but I can assure you it wasn't in my case ;) The instructions (all 4 lines!!) are pretty easy to follow :) I'm wondering if those that have CWM ever switch their device off completely between reflashes and thus never get to see the problem...

For those that haven't seen it yet, try sitting there for 30 minutes (it should take WAY less time than this to see it happen) and power off with a 6 second power press, then reboot. When you're rebooting, if you see the BOOTING screen, power off again (before it's booted) and try again. I reckon 5 or so minutes tops and you'll probably get BSOD....

Personally I am waiting till the r7 comes out before I start using clockwork. Until then I really don't see the point in it as the nandroid backup really doesn't appeal to me that much I would rather use the android backup.

Agreed, definitely not user error. Don't think we'll see a fix until post kernel source release.

It's really hard to guess what's happening. For the life of me, I can't see a relationship between boot and recovery but there clearly is!
