Hi gang ... I know that a few of you use the Gmote app and so I've just downloaded and installed it on my Vega and PC. Works nicely for music playing but I've got one or two issues which I'd be obliged if other users could confirm and/or suggest a fix please?

  1. Remote keypad constantly displays in portrait mode only?
  2. Power button (bottom right of screen) on remote does nothing unless you are remoting output to PC?
  3. No drop down menus anywhere?
  4. No clean way of closing the app?
  5. Cannot play any videos yet has anyone found any formats that do play alright?

Thanks in advance

[*]Remote keypad constantly displays in portrait mode only?

The main screen is always in portrait, however, things like the Trackpad and on-screen keyboard will work in landscape

[*]Power button (bottom right of screen) on remote does nothing unless you are remoting output to PC?

Correct

[*]No drop down menus anywhere?

Hold the back button for two seconds to call up the menu

[*]No clean way of closing the app?

No, you have to press Back repeatedly until it exits

[*]Cannot play any videos yet has anyone found any formats that do play alright?

I have had no problems playing AVI (Xvid/Divx) but MKV's or AVI's using AC3 don't work

I get all of those issues, I have managed to stream MP4 and AVI but not MWV which most of my videos are ;)

I also noticed that every time you press browse it seems to open a new instance of the app which if you keep doing it (like I did when I first started using it) it really slows down the device. I always press 'back' until it gets to the start now.

Thanks Sir Gash and Bennji for confirming it isn't just me. It's very odd the developer didn't build in an EXIT function as the back button method is a pain. I shall try and test out the video formats you mentioned too. I read on another thread that you can swap the VLC player being used by default to MPplayer which might play a few more formats. Have either of you tried that yet?

I think because in the original version of the app it was just a remote so it didn't really need one when all you need to do it press back to exit since it only had one screen. gmote should use whatever the vega is set as default for playing videos and you can change what it handles music with so it can play other formats if you check out the gmote forum there should be something to help in there.

Thanks Warrior I did check the Gmote forum as well but not a lot of information there so will do a wider search. Hopefully someone else will pick-up the source for the app and develop it further.

I installed RockPlayer, nothing would work before I did that - I'll try this MP Player to see if it does MWV, I hope so cos almost all of my videos are in this format.

The bizarre thing though is that Rockplayer will play WMVs that are stored on the device just not WMVs that are being streamed.

Update : Avi doesn't play too well, audio is out of sync with the video
