Guest UbaRolfey Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I thought it worth mentioning, that if you like games, but were under the impression that HWUI addon for the jellyfish Roms was really to enable hardware acceleration for the User interface only, and you can leave this out to save the battery! Then I have news for you! It being called hardware UI is a bit misleading, if you don't add this on games will literally run half the speed, I use NFS underground as an example, this without HWUI is almost unplayable, like a slideshow. But with this HWUI flashed into the rom, it's like a different phone, without overplaying it, it must run about 15-20 fps faster with it enabled. Now there will be a large number of people out there already that will know this, but for people that don't like I didn't for sure, take this as a heads up ;) Mike
Guest UbaRolfey Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Oh, and one other thing! Even when it's enabled, any quadrant score is unaffected, just shows how misleading quadrant can be. Mike
Guest sumdumguy Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Why doesn't 'Angry Birds' run any faster then ? Must be some old games don't switch to the gpu properly.

Guest daisyhayseed Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I'm currently using Jellyfish RL7 and without the optional HW zip and NFS runs perfectly fine on my phone even with Spotify playing in the background. It is worth mentioning that I've got SetCPU overclocking at 700. I understand that you need some CPU overclocking in place to activate the ahb overclock.

So it's either the HWUI or AHB+CPU O/C that does the job done?

Guest Fou-lu Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) Anyone try psx4droid v2, with this new HW enabled? Edited January 14, 2011 by Fou-lu
Guest Cirno Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) Anyone try psx4droid v2, with this new HW enabled? Not worth to try out, for me psx4droid runs sluggish, overclocked to 768MHz, HW-ui enabled and AHB overclocked addon installed tried it with JJRLS7, the game was slow and sluggish, oh the game was crash bandicoot first one. Mind trying again with background apps closed with a task killer? It works for weaker emulation such as GBA even on stock Blade
Guest UbaRolfey Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 There is no way it's just adb overclocking, I just installed jelly 7 this evening, ran nfs without hwui, and it ran like crap, and then I ran it with hwui enabled it ran as it should do. without it's sort of playable, but soooooooooooo much slower. Mike

I'm speaking out of experience, I ran Final Fantasy: Dawn Of Souls on the gba emu lite from the market, and without killing the background apps gameplay and sound was choppy. Killing them made it all smooth. Same happened with the GameGear emu (Shaq Fu was the game)

Mike Interesting. Tell me, are you using an OLED or TFT model? I only ask because I use an OLED without the need for HWUI zip. But my mate uses a TFT and needed to enable the HWUI to improve his gaming experience.
Guest targetbsp Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I think it depends on the game. Most games seem fine without but one of my games, Leave Devil Alone, gets a massive boost from HW acceleration. There's a lite version of the game if you wanna see for yourself. This on an OLED phone though I can't see how the display tech would affect things.
Guest chozabu Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 In my game (Wheelz) the game runs fine with or without HWUI - except when the ad overlays in the free version turn on, then it goes slow if I don't have HWUI - I assume it's the same in a few other games at least.

Hmm that is interesting, Yes I do have an Oled, so, maybe it has something to with the display driver used for Oled displays? but it DOES make a hell of a difference on at least NFS at least, it would be good if someone else could confirm, and I did reflash my phone and just to see, went through the options 1 by 1. Plain flash and test, plain flash ahb,and test, and Plain flash ahb and additional overclocking and test. The difference on NFS is colossal. Mike
