Guest vinnyutd6899 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) What % of San Francisco Phones are actually being used with an orange sim card in them in the uk? (guess) I know 4 people with them that have unlocked and de branded them and use them with o2 and tmobile sims. Edited January 15, 2011 by vinnyutd6899

Guest Sanddancer75 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I was wondering the same thing. Mine never had the Orange sim in it. One of the blokes at work bought one after seeing mine & although I pointed him in this direction doesn't have the confidence to reflash. I did unlock it for him just yesterday.
Guest Andyroid Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I ditched Orange in favour of T-Mobile, the SF never saw an Orange sim, s'pose with the merger now in effect I'm back with Orange again lol, they just dont let go do they ;)
Guest ladiko Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) As you only refer to residents of the UK, this point should be more clearly mentioned *in* the poll cause the poll is the first you see, when you enter this thread. Sorry for voting as i didn't see you only ask UK based OSF users ;) I guess this poll will not be very significant as users of this forum might be more likely technically gifted and able to unlock their phone as a random Orange customer. Guest joff01 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I'm on an Orange contract, but rooted the SF anyway to get rid of the Orange bloat.
Guest Thermostat9 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Currently I'm using up the credit on the Orange SIM. Once that is used up it's back to Virgin.
Guest phlum Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I'm still on Orange but hopefully my GiffGaff SIM will arrive today. ;) You know the vouchers you get with an SF that give you credit? I put mine in, and immediately my credit lowered to about 80p on both vouchers. I'd only really used 3G for a minute and sent a couple of texts...shouldn't my Dolphin plan have covered that? :) ...either way, I'm ditching Orange.

I'm half convinced that the san fransisco has probably pushed more people off orange (due to its shocking data prices) than has brought onto the network, I was with them for 10 years before I got mine!
Guest heavyduty00 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 jeez why does everyone hate orange... sure they are expensive etc but they were the ones who sold this phone in uk for amazing prices...they probably lose profit/break even for every phone they sold so they need something to make the profit back.. cut them some slack lol...normally this quality of phone would cost at least £200 + and here they are selling it for around £100!

I was about to ask the same! I've been a happy Orange customer (contract) for about 7 years now. I've tried to leave on a couple of occasions because I felt the handsets offered were lacking but they've kept me sweet by "looking into" my monthly bill. Network coverage is fine for me (Peterborough) and now we get to piggyback T-Mobile too.
Guest agstilo Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I've got mine on a rolling 30 day sim only contract on 3 - mainly because none of the handset in upgrade appealed to me, and secondly that I break even in 7 months - after that I'm saving money on the contract. I do still have a 2G Orange contract as well, but only as it allows me to get Orange Wednesdays, and I pay no monthly charges apart from what I use. (One of the can't be many still around OVP Virgin tariffs) ;)

It takes a few hours for the free 100mb internet to appear, you get a text message when it comes. Until then you're charged some extortionate rate for data.
Guest rjm2k Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 would probably have stuck with orange but they pinched my initial topup and were too incompetent to sort it so with tmobile though they r merged with orange now
Guest PF62 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) would probably have stuck with orange but they pinched my initial topup and were too incompetent to sort it Same for me. How hard would it have been for the member of staff in the shop to say "don't use the phone for 48 hours until our pathetic systems have recognised that you have 100mb of mobile data to use, and we won't take your £10 top up in stupidly high charges in the next hour". And when I spoke to their call centre, who promised to sort it out, did they? Did they heck as like. Useless b******s who deserve to lose money on the phone due to their attitude to their customers. Guest Prendy Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Will probably just use it until the £10 is done with, I have a giffgaff sim but I don't really want to waste £10.
Guest Richard_Arkless Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) I currently use the tmobile sim but now that they have reduced the data limit im tempted to try giffgaff as they have got unlimited internet, unlimited texts and 250 minutes for £10 Edited January 15, 2011 by Richard_Arkless
Guest leetron1 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Been Orange PAYG for 3 years..they sold me the handset for £58.99 (!!)...then transferred me to sim only 300 mobile mins, unlimited landlines, 100 texts and 1 GB data for £10/month on 30 day 'contract'....I think I've done quite well out of Orange... BTW love my SF to distraction ;)

Yeah that's exactly what happened to me, the guy in the shop confirmed that I needed to setup dolphin which I did at 2pm, no mention of waiting for texts confirming etc, but why would I when the dolphin switching service says we have now setup dolphin. Come 7pm same day I figure I'll download some of the apps I use, low and behold a few mins later and I'm out of credit. I can't even phone customer services from the phone to find out why because I have no credit! 10am next day I get a text saying we are setting up your dolphin! then later that day I get a message saying dolphin is activated, only because I have no credit I can't use it, despite it being free! After a number of lengthy and difficult conversations with people in India I finally got a courtesy £1 on my account so I could use dolphin until the missing credit was "sorted out" by the billing dept. Needless to say I never heard from the billing dept and took my great little SF to tmobile land instead. No way to treat new customers and expect to keep them. In addition, the box comes with "Free internet and texts on dolphin" all over it, now I knew that it needed to be setup first but your average customer would probably think it's already setup like that. Guest Elmo6 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I'm currently using an Orange sim after moving from Virgin but I plan to move to GiffGaff once I've used up the £10 that came with the phone.
