Guest jimmyc1982 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Hi, new member so i apologise if this is a noob question. I did have a good look through the forums but couldn't find a definitive question and would really appreciate some advice. I currently have a pay as you go phone on three network on a tariff call 3pay. I don't use my phone much at all, so it suits me. I was thinking of getting a San Francisco and unlocking it to use with my three sim so i can access emails and do a bit of web surfing on the move and use the gps for maps. My first question is will this phone once unlocked work with a three sim? and also will i be able to use it on my current pay as you go tariff ok? There is a link to the tariff i'm on below if that helps. thanks very much for the help. ;) 3pay tariff

Make sure you hold onto that sim, their new tariff 'PAYG on three' is terrible compared to the features you get on 3PAY. Existing customers get to stay on the 3PAY tariff which is good news. Being able to add a month of internet @ £5 for 2gb is great ;) The free 3 to 3 calls are a great bonus too.

(have never been on Orange) The guy in the phone shop topped up the sim with the mandatory credit when I purchased the phone, does this count? I have been on giffgaff since I purchased the phone.

If it was purchased from an Orange shop then the guy there will have activated it. Also have a look in the Stickied thread (Glossary) for Activated

Yeah I know, I looked at how they have changed their payg plans, they suck now, i have quite a few friends on three so it works really well for me, a £10 top last 3 months for me. It used to be even better as voicemail was free as well. Thanks Steven for the advice :) . I'm hopefully be getting one this week. Looking forward to trying it out. Guest Big Don Vespa Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 My SF is running Sebastian404's de-softened r0.3 Froyo ROM with my 3pay sim and it is simply fantastic. Seriously easy to unlock the handset and flash this ROM. No worries about network settings either, it was all up and running automatically once the update was complete. Go for it mate, as long as you follow instructions you won't have any problems. ;)

Guest extremedigital Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) Yes i have all 3 runing here read this topic but i find that skype will only work on 2.1 and planet 3 Hi You can get Both Skype & Msn working on 2.2 on the SF, However note that the 3 version of Msn and Skype will NOT work if you have Wifi switched on they will only work if you switch off and then they route via the 3G properly unfortuanetly there is no way around this, so make sure you switch off the wifi when you need to use them. Skype available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...6101&page=9 Msn available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...101&page=11 To get The Planet 3 working goto the market and search for 'Three' you can download the official app Btw here are the official apn setup as you will need to manually enter them the first time you use the sim http://ask3.three.co.uk/srvs/cgi-bin/webis...bile:mobileUser Hope that helps, Same here running 3Pay and you def need the 2mb addon for £5, as you will use your free 150mb in no time. Guest Ralph Martin Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) Skype on 3 works for me on 2.2 with JapJelly Release 7. The only snag is you must turn WiFi off to use it, as noted above, which is a bit silly. I don't see why it can't route calls over the phone whther WiFi is on or off. Poor. Alternatively, I guess you could use the regular Android Skype application, but that will then use data for all calls, eating into your data allowance if not on WiFi. As for the new tariff being poor - well, you can get 500Mb a month for £5, which is enough if you also have WiFi at home / work etc for any BIG transfers. Plus 150Mb (for up to a month) when you top up for £10. It's enough for me. YMMV. Jap. Jelly has 3's APN built in, so no setup is needed. Edited January 23, 2011 by Ralph Martin
