Handlebar Mount for ZTE Blade?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone knows of a Handlebar Cycle Mount that would fit the ZTE Blade?

I do allot of cycling and would be great to record routes etc using GPS. Just need some sort of mount so I don't need to keep grabbing it out my pocket.

Any ideas?

i put mine in my top waterproof camelbak pocket, where the gps works perfectly for things like endomondo. i can see the attraction of having it on my bar, but i would not mount it on the handlebar (or anywhere directly on the bike) because there is so much vibration there you are likely to damage it imho! what is needed is some sort of vibration-isolating mount?

That would be good, not seen such a thing yet though, but going to keep searching.

Be careful with what you find

If you want a mount that allows you to view your phone while cycling make sure it really holds the phone. Last thing you want are grazed knees, bent bike and a smashed screen ;)

As above, I prefer to put my phone in my pocket.(Mountain-bike)...No issue with the GPS signal, battery seems to last a very long time when logging ;)

I will be able to test the san fran, upload gps plot, some pics etc soon (and don't need computer to upload the trips).

If any ones interested, some of my previous trips

which programs do you use for biking?

i have tried endomondo and cardio trainer.

also how much battery life do you get? with gps on i have found it only lasts around 4 hours so on very long rides it doens't quite suffice.

i would also be interested in a bike handlebar mount. i have seen this before:

but is only for an iphone. maybe it could be adapted?

Currently Playing with "My Tracks" and "RunKeeper" but not tried out on the bike yet.

But looking at EveryTrail Pro from above, it looks quite good.

As for the iPhone Mount, it doesn't look very secure ;)

did 4 hours riding today and only about 40% battery used, very happy with this. probably depends what else you have running, endomondo with gps seems to use very little. didn't use a taskiller or anything special either, i don't think i even turned wifi off (2.1 FF rom)

yeah that's the other thing, i ride MTB and it can get quite violent, wouldn't want the phone exposed anyway (mud, water, crashes and the vibration thing). hence the backpak pocket.. impressed that GPS tracking is so good on this phone it seems better than my standalone gps unit!

Hi That-Guy

For all my trips so far I used http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/ Good for Java phones

And they do a Android App, you have to create your own maps (download form google)....Advantage - you can use it off line

I publish my trips on every trial(good site).....but never used their app (as no smart phone)

However I will try, allow 2 to 4 weeks (cycling and snowboarding coming up)

I wound go for the free version, log some trips and see how it goes

For me...its minimal effort....I'll post back how it goes

no joke.. and that's the other problem with putting gadgets on bar - risk of distraction and damaging yourself too.

one big problem with having phone on your back is if you receive a call.. that can cause a crash too :/ basically you're gonna die one way or another.

I am prepared to take that risk :)

Now thinking about having the phone in the front pocket of backpack (hopefully gps will still work). Then have bluetooth ear piece incase of call ;)

Maybe even go for a Portable Solar Charger to stop battery draining so quick, something like THIS or THIS.

Unless anyone has any better suggestions?

thanks, two good ideas there

1) putting a solar panel on your back for long rides (anyone tried this?? are they feasible?). simpler alternative: carry spare charged battery(s) when they are available for Blade.

2) bluetooth headset. slight risk of looking a tit. i might have to get one. leave phone on back/pocket.

Yeah Not sure just a solar charger would be enough to keep it charging while GPS is on but if I get the Solar Charger with Battery Pack that would stand a better chance ;)

Might leave the Bluetooth Headset because as you say there is a huge risk of looking like a tit, if someone calls I can just call them back when I stop.

I use an Otterbox Armour (can't remember the model, will look it up when I get home) and a RAM kit for attaching to the handlebars. I've had it a few years and used with various smarthones. I just cut new high-density foam pieces to hold it tight. Then I run Endomondo and I have a pair of Jabra BT620 bluetooth stereo headphones. They are over-ear so I can still hear traffic etc but they allow me to listen to music, get audio-updates from Endomondo and make/receive calls. With music/gps/Endomondo I get about 5 hours from the battery but I have a 2800mAh external battery pack that I can plug in for longer rides and there is enough space in the otterbox for both.

Just an update on this, I tested this:

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/freeloader-solar-charger-p151966

It kept my phone fully charged with EveryTrail and GPS running for 4 hours. So you would get 4 hours + Normal Battery Life using the above product.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any other external battery type things I could try? I don't mind them being quite big.

Any ideas?

As promised an update.....

Using www.trekbuddy.net for a fully charge battery after 8 hours of gps logging etc had 40 to 50% of the battery left (screen off most of the time)

Snow boarding trip as follows (8 hours)...done with trek buddy

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=973926

Mountain bike trip done with EveryTrail .... battery life seems to be the same

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=943982

Conclusion.... ZTE blade and outdoor activities very good for me

I had intentions of using one of the windscreen car mounts without the sucker but, only the phone cradle and sort of attaching it to the stem using zip ties through the clip points. Hard to explain but I think it would work in my mind. I ditched the idea though when I found out how quickly the battery drains using navigation with the screen on and thought it probably wouldn't last a ride. Having MyTracks uploading away in my pocket don't take much of a hit.
