Titanium Backup is worth buying

I've seen people complaining in all the rom threads about Titanium backup hanging. I just thought I'd let you know that the Pro version is much better in that regard. It uses a different technique for backups and restores (Hypershell) and has never once hanged for me unlike the free version on both Froyo and the stock roms. So don't blame the roms. ;)

I find this funny - as the only reason I have never bought it as its so unstable and refused to pay for it.

Maybe some not so cunning plan has backfired.

Yeah, I was so fed up with it hanging I thought I'd try the Pro version and use the 15 minute refund if required. So I spammed the heck out of backups and restores for 10 minutes and it was perfectly fine (and quite a lot faster) so I kept it. And a week later of backing up updated apps and the every 3 day update of them all as well as an updated rom de-crapify (and a couple of restores due to accidents!) it hasn't hanged once.

The free version by comparison hanged twice decrapifying the previous rom and on pretty much any batch backup of everything that I didn't split into small chunks.

After reading this and becoming quite frustrated with Titanium backup I copied my Pro licence file onto the my SD card (hadn't got round to it after SD problems).

Seems much much quicker/smoother at doing batch jobs (wouldn't be surprised if 10x).

This is a real shame as StevenHarperUK pointed out - this must be putting off a lot of users.

Another convert to titanium pro, I have also found the free version to be far to clunky, moving to pro was a complete Joy pro just works and very well to, when I changed roms some market setting insisted on installing every app I've ever down loaded very annoying! Titaniums batch uninstall removed all the crap effortlessly. Anyone who flashes roms regularly will find pro invaluable!

Maybe they should do a trial version that only lets you do backups of 50 items at a time or something.

However as it stands its bad advertising.

for those with pro version, is it locked to a phone or usable across phones? one of the main uses for me would be to backup and restore to a different phone.

Ah ha, I was getting close to tearing my hair out with the free version due to the constant hanign with batch back ups/reinstalls...seems like a clever marking ploy gone wrong. I will have to try to fullversion.

I suspect (without actually knowing the app history at all ;) ) that all it is, is that a free app was written. And then he came up with a new faster way of doing the behind the scenes work and decided he could sell that. And it's just unfortunate that the methods used by the free version lacks reliability as well as pace. No developer would intend for a demo to be buggy. :)

He should change to a 15 day trial method like AMP Player instead of this slow demo version.

Free version also lacks non-interactive batch restore - which was enough for me to upgrade to the Pro version.

is there a free alternative that does the basic userdata backup/restore reliably? don't care about app backup or other features really.

I have used the free version of Titanium the last few months and it works without any problem. Especially for Email and Angry Birds ;) .

So it's not a given that the free version won't work.

Have you tried restoring 100+ apps+data+system data ?

I own back-up pro, what's the advantages of Titanium back-up pro?

No, too much work ;) . I basically make Nandroid backups every now and then, restore those, and then only specific programs with Titanium if settings/data are important (email/angry birds levels).

Still 100% success rate backing up and restoring. ;)

It doesn't help with the fact it occasionally gets stuck on a black screen asking for super user permissions. All my root apps do occasionally though (root explorer, ad free, autostarts) so I guess the fault lies in the super user app. Affects me in both JJ and Modaco froyo roms. Anyone got any ideas about that?

i prefer app monster

backup on the fly every app you install very fast to restore no buggy superuser problem
