Black Screen Of Death - Recovery method

Recommended Posts

OK, so i've been searching for over an hour, and starting to freak out (so apologies if the answer to this DOES appear somewhere else).

I've tried the: back button for two, power for two then let go, let go of back button after another two, (it aint working).

Can anyone provide the instructions in step by step format on how to get past BSOD after entering recovery mode (by clicking icon on app list in error).

Oh! and remind me NOT to install this next time i flash my vega!!

Thanks in advance.

have you tried holding the power button for 6 secs first? then powering on as normal. If that fails power button for 6 secs then try the 2,2,2 procedure. Apparently it works best if battery is well charged. If it fails keep trying, take a break have a beer and try some more

Nowt works, so with the Packers game coming on in about 20 mins, I'm going to take your advice and grab a beer or two. Will try again later, (hopefully with better results).

Sadly the vega might be in USB host mode, which is prob going to screw me. Will see how it goes tho.

Any more advice is welcome though............

Hi, I don't know if this has been mentioned before somewhere else but I found a solution to make the recovery mode work first time every time ;)

1. Make sure the charger is UNPLUGGED.

2. Hold The power button for 6 seconds and make sure the backlight is off.

3. Now insert the charging cable and the USB cable from the PC to the Vega.

4. Hold the back button for 2 seconds.

5. While still holding the back button hold the power for 2 seconds.

6. Then let go of the power button still holding the back button

Now I know at first glance this looks identical to all other instructions but the most important part is step 1,2 & 3.

If you try it without the charger or with the charger already in it does not seem to work at all , but following these steps it works everytime for me :)

I'm not even sure step 6 is necessary, my computer normally recognises the NVIDIA Recovery mode before that.

Also I might have magic fingers but I don't even think the timing is that crucial for the button press length, probably have a lot of angry people after saying that :D

Hope this helps ;)

Sadly no joy after trying a few beers AND your method ;)

Going to leave the bsod on overnight and see if running the battery down helps. Going to take soem time tho, as it was fully charged when i decided it would be a good idea to see what the "recovery" icon in the app list did. I'll remember not to pull that stunt again!! (if i can get this back....)

Negative. Battery fully drained and still BSOD on startup / 2,2,2, startup.

Hope this isn't going to have to go back.....

You're doing something wrong. I can get into flash boot mode every time I get bsod. Make sure the device is fully off (i.e. if you have the backlight lit, power button for 6 seconds). Plug usb into computer, hold back button for a few secs, then press power button until you hear the ding that says the computer recognises the device and then let go of the power button, keeping back held for a second or so... If the back light comes on, you haven't got it right and you need to power off with a long press of the power key.

Ahhh - seems to have worked. 400th time is the charm i guess!! Quite possibly i managed it before and didn't notice, but I have the Nvidia boot recovery driver for windows devices" showing in device manager now.

Just need to work out what to do with it now...

Thanks all for the help and suggestions. Will edit and add the full step by step instructions to the 1st post on this thread as soon as i get it reflashed to hopefully save others some time.

Suggestions on what to do next gratefully recieved btw...

*EDIT* - Do i need to flash stock firmware version the upgrade again to Pauls latest ROM? or can i just go straight to latest ROM? Keep in mind that nothing should be wrong with the vega - i pressed the recovery icon to see what it was... (dumb ass!)
