I've written a small document to help others update their Advent Vega easy and quick

It took me all night till 3:00 am to get this working due to some lame USB issues. If you have the same, just follow this complete guide and you will succeed.

This will save you valuable time.

Tested on: Windows 7 32bit and 64 bit and WindowsXP Pro 32bit Virtual Machine

Any remarks to make it better are, off course, very welcome!

You need the Following items to proceed

Hardware:

The Advent Vega, with power adapter on power, loading device.

The accompanying USBA-USBA cable

Machine running Windows

XP, Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit tested

Software:

The Advent Vega USB Recovery Driver http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/SystemUSB.zip

The Advent Vega Firmware

http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/softwareImag..._Vega_Final.exe

MoDaCo Add On from http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/

USBDeview if you have trouble detecting the Device

Updating to the 1.06_05 Firmware

Attach the device to the Windows System with the USBA-USBA cable

Make sure you are powering the device, loading it and has more than 20% battery

Enter Recovery Mode

Powering off the device

By holding Power for 6 seconds

Hold Back for 2 Seconds

Hold Power for 2 Seconds, While holding Back

Release Power, While holding Back for Two Seconds

Release Back

The PC Detects the device in Recovery Mode

You hear the detection Sound

If quickly followed by detach sound

Make sure you are powering the device, loading it and has more than 20% battery

Install Recovery Device Driver

Use Device Manager to install updated Vega driver for APX Device

Left click APX in Device Manager

Update Driver Software…

Browse to Advent Vega SystemUSB Driver Directory

The updated driver will present the device as an

Universal Serial Bus Controller->

NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices

Update Firmware

Run softwareImage_v1.06_05_Vega_Final.exe as Administrator

Sit back and let the device update

Takes just a couple of minutes

Wait until Press Enter appears

Power off the device

By holding Power for 6 seconds

Start up again, Normal Booting…

By holding Power for 2 seconds

Adding the MoDaCo package

Okay, You’ve come this far, now let’s re-install Adobe Flash and add Google’s Android Market to the device.

Unzip Firmware Add-On

r6-vega-modacocustomromaddon-smallbar-signed.zip or Custom

Unzip Additional Firmware Add-On USB-Driver from MoDaCo Package

usbdriver\r1-tegrausbdrivers-modaco.zip

Attach the device to the Windows System with the USBA-USBA cable

Make sure you are powering the device, loading it and has more than 20% battery

Turn the device on as you normally do

By holding Power for 2 seconds

Enable USB Debugging

Set Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging to Checkmark

Use Device Manager to install driver for USB Device

Normally the device is detected as Unknown or nVidia Harmony

Left click this USB Device

Update Device Driver

Browse to MoDaCo nVidia usb_driver

Finish installing the MoDaCo nVidia usb Device drivers

It will install an Android Phone->Android Composite ADB Interface

If you don’t have the USB Device, go to Troubleshooting USB Device Recognition

Browse to the Firmware Add-On package and run install-windows.bat

Sit back and let the device update and reboot

Takes just a couple of minutes

Activate Adobe Flash

If Flash still isn’t working you can use iFileManager to re-install it from the device.

Just use iFileManager on the device to

go to /system/etc/shuttle_priv

and click on the Flash****APK file to install

Troubleshooting USB Device Recognition

If you have troubles with your system detecting the Advent Vega on USB make sure you have the Device on Power, Loading, Powered On and USB Debugging Enabled. If you are still unable to find any APX/nVidia device associated with the Advent Vega use USB Devices View from Nirsoft, also known as USBDeview. It can be found on http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html. Download via http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usbdeview.zip

Removing Misconfigured USB Drivers

No need to install, just download USBDeview and run it as Administrator

Disconnect USBA Vega

Sort on VendorID Column, and select all 0955 vendor devices:

I had 0955:7100 (3 times) and 0955:7820 (once)

Rightclick and select Uninstall Selected Devices

Restart USBDeview to check if they are gone

Close USBDeview again

Reinstall correct Vega Drivers from MoDaCo

Attach the device to the Windows System with the USBA-USBA cable

Make sure you are powering the device, loading it and has more than 20% battery

Goto the Device Manager

Press Scan for Hardware Changes Button from the Button Menu

Device(s) should Install as an Android Phone->Android Composite ADB Interface

Note

Use Advent Vega Driver for APX device if Vega is in Recovery Mode.

Use MoDaCo Firmware Patch Drivers if Vega is in USB Debugging Mode.
