rooted dell streak 1.6 to 2.2 ?

Hi, please help. I have a dell streak with firmware 1.6 and build number 3883. It is locked to o2. I rooted the streak, but i have received a notification from O2 to update to software 2.2 . Can i install this software and then perform a root for 2.2 or do i have to unroot the streak first. Sorry if this question sounds dumb but i have searched the net but cant find an answer.
