Yes and followed someone on u tube

Think you need to give us a step-by-step list of what you have done already and where you have got stuck as it is not very easy for us to give you any advice unless we have this information from you. ;)

It sounds as if (like many of us) you have hit the 'USB Driver issue'. I have written some instructions listed below for Windows XP users to follow and as a Vista user the driver files will be the same but just how you do it on Vista may be different. Firstly read my instructions to find where the drivers are located and then follow the Vista instructions held in this post. :---

First, using Windows Explorer you need to go to the folder on your PC where you unzipped the files from Pauls download pack. In that folder will be a folder called 'usbdriver' and within that, one called 'usb_driver' and it is in this sub-folder where all the drivers you need are held.

If when you run the 'install-windows.bat' command as instructed nothing happens or you only get say a couple of lines of text displayed then you will need to do the following:-

Go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and if you have the Vega connected by USB (with power on) you should see some new hardware called ANDROID PHONE and/or NVIDIA HARMONY. Right click on each entry and click 'Uninstall' then go to the top of the list where it displays your computers name and right click on the entry and select 'Scan for hardware changes'. The Windows new hardware wizard will then pop-up asking if you have a driver disk or not. Say you have and browse to the folder called 'usb_driver' described above and select it. The hardware should then be installed with the correct drivers.

Repeat the 'install-windows.bat' command and hopefully this time a whole list of program output should appear showing it is working and in less than a minute it should all be done and your Vega will reboot itself. Then on Vega go into SETTINGS>ABOUT DEVICE and the Kernel Version should include the text ...v1.xx.... where xx is the level you are now at i.e. 04.

Note:- You may need to do the above with every new release as it seems to be the only way of updating the drivers properly unless someone else can tell us a better way

First off I think (i maybe wrong in saying this) that using Vista causes problems from the start.... For the life of me I couldn't get the drivers installed properly on my Vista 32bit laptop, whatever I did my laptop wouldn't recognise my vega, only as a mass storage device.

As soon as I booted up an old XP desktop and did exactly as I had tried on my Vista machine I was connected and running the custom rom and managed to install Clockwork without really even trying....

Again I maybe wrong, but Vista could be your problem

I believe there are quite a lot of Vista users connecting to Vegas already and certainly the link I included was from someone using a Vista PC but perhaps others will confirm this and advise us of any tips Sue can follow?

OK well that proves the USB drivers you need are there and are located in the usb_driver folder .... remember the path you took to get there as you will need to type this path into the 'browse for driver software' box which is mentioned in the Vista instructions post I sent you before (see above). Follow the instructions in that post and let us know how you get on.

Hi I have just removed and reinstated the MODACO and when I have plugged in the vegao and it is looking fro the driver it is installed NVIDIA Harmony but it has a yellow triangle in the corner when I click on it it says the following

this device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Thanks Sue

OK we may be progressing. Click on the re-install driver and browse to the usb_folder folder which you found earlier and click to install from that folder.

P.S. If there is an entry for ANDROID PHONE you may also have to do it for that as well

I have to say, you have some serious patience, but I have to say this, and I apologise if this comes across as rude. If you can't understand how windows drivers work and how to install the driver you need through device manager, I would seriously think twice about weather it's a good idea that you start messing with your Android device using ADB, seems like a recipe for disaster... (not aimed at you obviously, but to the guy who asked the original question).

Hehe it's a guy named Sue actually (now where have I heard that) and I think she is learning to be patient now as we have all had to ;)

Sue I'm going to be away for a couple of hours but hopefully you can sort out re-installing those drivers for yourself and once you have just go into the command prompt window and repeat the 'install-windows.bat' command

Then hopefully you will see a list of program output appearing to show it is working and in less than a minute it should all be done and your Vega will reboot itself. See ya ;)

That's a bit harsh, I didn't understand any of it (still don't in fact) but through the great support and help from people on this forum I managed to get it done.

Good luck Sue

spot on, that's what forums are for, some of us are learners while others are experts, put us together and you get modaco.

Just wanted to add, if it wasn't for this forum, I wouldn't know how to order a vega online let alone use it.....HAHAHAHA

You guys are riggt, of course, this is exactly what forums are for, I wasnt really meaning "you cant do it so you shouldnt try", I actually kind of just meant i was worried that she would brick her vega and then be stuck without an understanding on how to fix it... But, you are correct, Ive been schooled ;)

And I can confirm, that using the stuff posted on here, it is impossible to brick a Vega. It is the most brick proof device I've ever seen. Well done to the designers. In essence, what they've done is hardcoded the response to the button press sequence, controlled by hardware, to run some code which is outside the area the flashing wipes and reinstalls. It's a fantastic thing that this code puts the Vega into USB slave mode and runs a server to enabling flashing. 10/10. You can even flash USB host and still get to recovery!

You would have to try very hard, using techniques not covered in these threads, to brick a Vega.

Go for it Sue. No matter what happens, there are people here who can work it out for you. Trevor is on the case, he'll sort it.
