Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Ok ... I really haven't had much time to play with this Android lark yet at all. My San Fran is running JJ RLS6, and has my work SIM in there, so I'm a little reticent to configure Facebook or Twitter. So I thought I'd ask the question first (and yes, I have tried search! ;) ) So ... on my iPhone, if I have applications configured then they use the Apple notification system and popup with a message onscreen. There are some annoyances with this, as a new notification will cause the previous to disappear. BUT on Android, do the apps just notify via a ringtone and then leave the update in the "notification" dropdown from the taskbar? Are there any apps which have popup updates? Lastly for Facebook and Twitter etc, do they require to be running on the device in order for notifications to work? Cheers

But apps such as tweetdeck need to be opened once after a re-boot (Don't use task killers) then they will autosync just fine There are widgets you can get that display the amount of unread tweets / facebook spam. Launcher pro can display the unread email / text count. But really one of the things we love most about android is the notification system ;) Notifications will only disappear if you click on them or clear them.. (Or if you power off the device :D) Edited January 17, 2011 by Azurren
Guest Xenon0816 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 The only app I know that uses popups on android is handcent sms. You can activate a notification popup for new texts... But I don't think, that those popups are general android ones. I rather think that they are a special feature of handcent...
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thank you both ... I've been tinkering and noticed that I can have different ringtones for each different app's notification, which is great. Really starting to love Android!
Guest PeterDreher Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) I want to turn off the Stock-SMS Notification because i am using Handcent SMS. How do i do this in Jellyfisch 2.2? Couldn't find it. Thanks a lot EDIT: Found it: Stock SMS > Menu > Settings > all the way down, uncheck Notifications (Statusbar) Edited January 19, 2011 by PeterDreher
