Guest StevenHarperUK Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Introduction to ROM's (or Firmware) STOP (hammer time!) currently this page is for ZTE-BLADE devices that have the old style memory layout [GEN1] blades. The [GEN2] Thread for installing ROMS is here : http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...or-gen2-device/ This means that [GEN1] BLADES that use the baseband of 0x02A00000 and they can use anything on this page If your device has the new [GEN2] layout its baseband will be 0x02600000 - and you MUST NOT install anything from this page Currently Swedish Comviq phones and also Bulgarian phones (that are 2.2) MAY be GEN2 How to find out what BLADE you have (GEN1 or GEN2) You need tom install this app Ask Mr Pigfish https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apedroid.pigfish http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ask-mr-pigfish/ When you run the APP the first line will be Mr.Pigfish says you have a Gen1 model or Mr.Pigfish says you have a Gen2 model If it's not Gen1 then Pick a GEN1 ROM - INSTALLING A GEN1 ROM ON A GEN2 DEVICE WILL BRICK IT UPDATE : There is now a few custom ROMs for GEN2 devices - this thread has the details of how to root (Z4Root), Recovery Manager, Clockwork (recovery-clockwork-3.0.1.4-x880), backup, then install your ROM. Please please be careful what your doing - the work is very new and make sure you understand what your doing. A ZTE Blade that is sold to you from an Operator contains a STOCK ROM. The STOCK ROM is made up of 2 partsThe BOOT partition (a Linux Kernel and some drivers)The Android System (Customised by the Operator) re-use the already compiled Kernel modify (hack) an already compiled Kerneluse someone else's already compiled KernelCompile their own Kernel (from sourcecode) If this is so - then the Kernel you have on your device (in the BOOT partition) will not be affected. Next they will produce thier ROM (Android System)Choose a Standard ROM to be the BASE of thier ROMRemove thing they don't like / needAdd things to make it betterTweak settings ROM developers will usualy warn you. When you update to a newer version of the same ROM you usually dont have to Factory Reset . Again ROM developers will usually warn you when you have to. When moving between ROM's that are different you nearly ALWAYS have to Factory Reset. When you first boot into a new ROM a startup procedure of some kind will happen. This will take much longer than a normal bootup. Important things are going on - let it do it. You must only apply patches & Themes to your device after you have let the ROM boot once. When it comes to installing there are only 2 kinds of ROMROMs that can be installed with ClockworkROMs that can be installed as a Total Phone Transfer (TPT) Current Known / Available ROM's for the ZTE Blade There is a POLL to keep track of how many users are using each ROM It re-sets every week or two - is should give you an idea about which ones are popular.http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-are-you-using/ Custom 2.1 Eclair ROMSMoDaCo Custom Rom - r4 OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by Paul - A stable rom that is designed for day to day use - has most of Orange features removed, adds useful Apps / FeaturesMoDaCo Custom Rom - r4 (no MoDaCo Additions) OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by Paul - Same ROM as above without Spare Parts, Titanium Backup, WaveSecure, WiFi Status IndicatorSebastian404's de-orangeated-rom - r8 - LITE/FAT TFT/OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by Sebastian - A light as possible ROM with only essential updates done a super clean ROM - FAT has ZTE apps left inBladeVillain1.1.0 [GEN1] - Villain ROMS's (2.1 Eclair) provided by kendon - Based on the Hungarian ROM (with the more stable wifi) but will all modifications removed A2SD built in - replaced stock Launcher with LauncherPro, rooted/busybox/apps2sd/betterzipalign, png optimised, all languages enabled, Cyanogen's huge APN file, TouchPal keyboard removed HTC IME Mod added, thanks jonasl@xda,Hardware acceleration enabled, Dalvik memory tweakFrench Fries RLS4 [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by kallt_kaffe - Based on the French ROM with EXT3 support (A2SD) and Overclocking (as an Addon) - branding removed, rooted, default launcher pro, upped heap size, Flash Lite - and lots more fixes/changesSebastian404's de-bouyguesed ROM for ZTE Blade/Orange San Francisco - r6 - LITE/FAT [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by Sebastian - Based on the French ROM, light as possible ROMHungarian Hedgehog RLS1 TFT/OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by kallt_kaffe - based on the hungarian ZTE Blade ROM, more recent than the French ROM, EXT3 (for better/safer Apps2SD),support for overclocking (available as addons), LCD support, lots of Kernel changes/tweaks, many added apksFinnish Fillyjonk RLS5 TFT/OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by kallt_kaffe - based on the finnish ZTE Blade ROM, more recent than the hungarian ROM, EXT3 (for better/safer Apps2SD),support for overclocking (available as addons) extra keyboards, TouchPal and XT9 IME, Circle battery indicator - Addon to support 5MP camera - LITE or FAT versions - HW EnabledCustomised BladeVillain 1.1.0 RLS4 TFT/OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by freekers - Keeping Kendon's ROM Alive! - based on Hungarian ROM, Laucher Pro, Titanium Backup, Wifi Fixes, Stock boot animation, Camera sounds disabled - FAT and LITE versionsSwedish Snow RLS1 TFT/OLED [GEN1] (2.1 Eclair) provided by kallt_kaffe - Mystery ROM based on on TSE_P729VV1.0.0B01 (Comviq Sweden). Choosing your ROM The most important thing is that you choose a ROM that is going to work on your device. Almost all the ZTE Blade's have TFT screens - however some of the early Orange San Fransisco devices have OLED screens. If you put a boot.img (linux kernel) that is designed for an OLED device onto a device that has a TFT screen - then you will have 2 problems. [*]Your screen will have a Blue Tint [*]Your device will appear to not wake up one it has gone to sleep If you accidently do this you can fix your device - however it's a much better idea to not do it in the first place If you donlt know what kind of screen you have, then on some ROMS you can use the Dialer to find out Dial *983*24474636# in the dialer. Then read here http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...n-your-sanfran/ Below is a table of all the known ROM's with some of thier important features compared. Guest idolakis Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thank you for all your super nice work. Without you I/we would be totally disorientated/lost! I personally use Paul's r10 but like JellyFish very much too (battery is an issue for me)
Guest riocoles Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Thanks for you posts on this. I was able to install a new 2.2 rom on my San Francisco. Have been using the JellyFish rom. Everything OK by now. They have been really helpful. Keep the good work. Edited January 18, 2011 by riocoles
Guest aliaird Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 fistly love this site, really appreciate all the work clever people do on here, and will shortly go Ad free I am sure, I like having the latest things!! I have a noob question.... I have installed a couple of ROMs since getting my ZTE recently. Initially I tried the Bladevillan 2.1 which was fine, then I wanted to try a 2.2 ROM so am currently running the Modaco Custom Froyo r7 2.2. My question is, how do people easily restore all their programs, settings, widgets, launchers, homescreens etc once they have installed a new ROM? What about when the ROM requires a wipe like Modaco Custom Froyo r8 2.2? Do you simply reinstall from scratch after every new ROM, or is there a simple way of backing up and restoring? I have played around with Titanium backup Pro and reinstalled each program individually with little difficulty, but it still took quite a time, then the widgets had to be re set up etc. So am I missing a trick that allows me to flash new ROMs when they come up, and get my phone up and running with all the programs etc I want, quickly? thanks

Guest StevenHarperUK Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 So am I missing a trick that allows me to flash new ROMs when they come up, and get my phone up and running with all the programs etc I want, quickly? thanks Titanium paid app is far better than, the free one - and the automation is better - see this thread. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...s-worth-buying/
Guest Tom Kitchen Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Fire away with any changes / errors you see on the table. Also please inform me of anything I have missed or you think should be on this page - thanks Would it be simpler for a reader to organise it as Roms for use with Clockwork, and Roms for use with TPT, even though some will be repeated? Or would this just be a personal preference?
Guest Linuxnizer Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Amazing work...would it be possible to know which firmware has RTL Arabic/Hebrew support?

Guest Giuliano69 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) My compliment for the great work. Could be useful to better underlinewhich is a "production" release and which is notWhy a user should choose a version 2.1 instead of a 2.2The list gives a plenty of information, but the risk is to be stacked and having difficulties in choosing the ONE to install. A criteria or sort of ranking, (eg: by stability or bug fix) could help a lot Intresting 3d to be linked from this rom thread http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-are-you-using/ Edited January 23, 2011 by Giuliano69

Guest DiogoMts Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Does anyone recommend a ROM for a longer battery life?

My goal was NOT to state which is the best, but to insert some more bit of information to make a ROM selection: some example could beproduction level , (stable, beta or alfa)date of release well known problemDo you like the idea ? It's a good idea - but a huge amount of work to keep a list of Bugs for ALL ROM's in one place - best left to the ROM owners in their Known Problems Sections.

Guest ModishNouns Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Hi all, I installed the MoDaCo Froyo r7 rom on my UK Orange San Fran yesterday and I'm having a lot of WiFi problems that I wasn't having with the stock Orange 2.1 ROM. I can't get it to connect to the work router at all despite cycling the router and re-entering the key. I have to force it to connect and then it just sits obtaining IP address. Is this a known issue? Is there a 2.2 ROM with more stable WiFi (later kitchen releases have had WiFi fixes but I only have access to the prebake) or would I be better reverting to a de-Orangated 2.1 ROM? Cheers
Guest bujcri Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Is there any Froyo Rom that works with the ZTE Blade with 5 MP camera (from the Finnish operator Elisa/Saunalahti, it comes with Android 2.1)? I read that the Japanese Jellyfish Rom is also for a 5 MP version Blade, should it work on the Finnish model, without disabling the camera?

I read that the Japanese Jellyfish Rom is also for a 5 MP version Blade, should it work on the Finnish model, without disabling the camera? I can confirm that JJ RLS9 does support 5 MP German Blade. I am running it currently though not sure for how long battery life is not great. Other than that mostly bug free and fast.
Guest KenBW2 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Is StevenHarperUK still updating this thread? It's an amazing source of information, but if you're struggling to keep up with it it'd be great to move it to the wiki where we could all keep it up to date.

I check it daily :P Wiki's can quickly stagnate - threads stay fresh. Wiki's are better for historical information - ROM's are current 70+ updates to this thread since 18th October 2010 - its fresh
