Guest jellywobbles Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 The Samsung Galaxy Tab has a great Gmail app, configured for tablets. The guys at XDA have extracted it here!. Has anyone tried it out on the Vega?
Guest trevor432990 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Looks neat Jelly not tried it myself as it seems to require CWM and I am still shying away from that right now. Will be interested how you and others get on with it though. I presume the Google developers are working on something similar for the new flavours of the Android OS whenever they get released.
Guest removed-14 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 It isn't the native GMail client. It uses IMAP to connect to your Google account. Not for me. I like the native app too much.
Guest extrememonkey Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Been trying to run a version of this on my Dell Streak, too many errors and FC's..... Just way to buggy to be used as your main client!!!

Doesn't require CWM I just copied the APKs to /system/app. It's still a little glitchy, but kinda cool

From reading the post over on xda this is the email app modified so that it can also do Gmail rather than being a modified Gmail app.
Guest Sir Gash Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks for the link Jelly. Installed the b2 version and all appears to be working well. Haven't had any FC's yet (just reading/deleting), will try sending a few test emails. Looking good so far!
Guest sipart Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Doesn't require CWM I just copied the APKs to /system/app. It's still a little glitchy, but kinda cool No clockworkmod on my Vega so tried this but I have managed to lose the stock email app! Not to worry as I use Gmail app. All 3 new apks in system/app now with correct permissions but no app? I did not overwrite initially. I renamed the old email app. That didn't work so I shuffled the old and new around and now no email app - any way to get the new email app working? All file moves and copies done with root explorer and I have rebooted. Thanks in advance
Guest warriorscot Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Looks pretty similar to the next version of the native app but the current version works well i'm not sure if I would want to switch to something not completely stable for my email.
Guest MaxiP Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Tried this last night doing a CWM update - all excited untilI tried to access email and just get Force Close. I can still access my email via GMail Unread app but not via email directly. Pity as this looks very nice.

You have to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Email and select Clear Cache or Clear Data. I have been using it for over a day now and have not had a single FC. The only issue I have with this are pressing the icons in the top right seem to be a bit fiddly. Anyone else have this problem?

Guest Jisonga Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for the heads up about this app. Using it now for both hotmail and gmail accounts and all going well. Mind you i did find that the soft menu and back bottons don,t show up and not sure how to change any settings. Jason.
Guest Jisonga Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 All sorted found menu option by turning vega into portrait view and notification bar showed up. Jason.
