Guest icklerockchick Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Hi there been having issues with my San Francisco for few days now. I have unlocked and rooted the phone and got rid of all the orange bloatware but have not installed any custom roms. It was working fine for a little while and then when I went to download anything in android market it would just get stuck on starting download forever and would not actually download anything. Tried various things including removing battery, changing googlemail account to gmail, restore to factory settings (which lost me all my apps and games), changing various settings, making sure gmail auto syncs. Nothing is working for me and would love someone to help me out as currently got an android phone with no apps and no games which defeats the purpose of android phone!! ;) If you have any ideas please let me know thanks.
Guest Rotmann Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Maybe trying to delete the market cache will help? Settings-Applications-Manage applications-look for the market, press on it - delete cache.

Guest dav_dako Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I have this problem too, tried the above but it doesn't work for me. Im still using modaco 2.1, hoping that a change to froyo soon will fix the problem.
Guest icklerockchick Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 anyone else had this problem / found a solution? It's driving me crazy ;)
Guest Rotmann Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Well since you are on eclair 2.1 it's a good reason to switch to 2.2 ;) They are very stable, not yet perfect but as close as it gets. I recommend Sebastian 404's Froyo (running for 3 weeks, no problems at all) with the new Kernel and the fixes or Paul's MCR Froyo. Cheers.
Guest atatreedy Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Hi, I'm having this problem also, it started last night (17 Jan). I too unlocked the phone to Voda, then followed the guide on removing all the Orange shovel-ware, if GoogleTalk was on there chances are i got rid of that too (doesnt sound like something i'd use). I used superuser permissions + Titanium backup. I've not put on any custom roms, just installed Launcher pro and Home swithcher. The strange thing is i'd done this a couple of weeks ago, no problems, i've been installing/removing apps via the market place + using .apk files fine! I've tried all the suggestions.. Gmail, Sync, clearing cache, factory reset. after the factory reset - i'm still missing all the orange/google gumph i removed. Internet, TXT and call all still work! Any way to re-set the phone to exactly how i got it? or would installing a custom rom fix the issue?(not something i feel confident doing, it was an xmas present) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Guest Azurren Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 The old fix for this was to change your email address form @googlemail to @gmail (Web based GMail option) Then to factory reset your phone and enter in the @gmail address Although this was some time ago..It may still work or it could be a completely unrelated problem :S Oh and don't be afraid of installing custom roms, no one has managed to perm-brick the blade yet ;)
Guest atatreedy Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 sod it, i'm 1/2 way through a custom rom installation.... the support on here is so good, why should i worry! ;) now will this sort the problem out though?

No promises.. If its a problem with the rom (And you wipe data / cache) then yes. If it's a problem with your google account then No
Guest IronDoc Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Oh and don't be afraid of installing custom roms, no one has managed to perm-brick the blade yet ;) Except Rem1x's dad :)
Guest Azurren Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Except Rem1x's dad :) I didn't mean using the phone as a brick ;) :D
Guest atatreedy Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 No promises.. If its a problem with the rom (And you wipe data / cache) then yes. If it's a problem with your google account then No well....that was surprisingly easier than i expected! great guide by StevenHarperUK by the way! Got a bit nervous when it froze on re-boot, but all i did was this- Remove the battery Put the battery back in Hold the Volume Down button turn the phone on Use Volume Up / Down to move between options Use Home key to select an option Use Back key to go back From the clockwork menu choose: Clear Cache From the clockwork menu choose: Factory Reset From the main menu choose: Reboot i'm now rocking 2.2 froyo - MoDaCo Custom Froyo ROM (r7)- and the best bit----MY APP MARKET NOW WORKS AGAIN! so there you have it, It worked for me, and it was dead easy! thanks guys! and for those of you still having the problem...just do the custom install...its quicker and easier than the whole job of removing all the apps that got us in this trouble to start with!
Guest dav_dako Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I finally made the change to Froyo and downloaded Japanese Jellyfish; market works for me now ;)
Guest icklerockchick Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Oooh that's great news guys ;) so glad it worked for you! Was reluctant to try installing a custom rom incase I mess it up but if there's a chance it will fix my marketplace then I am very interested!! Have literally tried everything else that I could find anywhere on google to do with the problem! X
