Guest Roger-S Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Since getting a ZTE-Blade I've moved over to using Google Calendar and sync it with my phone after importing my MS Outlook calendar into Google which worked fine. What I have noticed however is that when I add events well into the future in the PC Google calendar, there seems to be a cut off date after which they do not sync down to my phone. Today for example if I add any events from December 22nd onwards they do not sync but any events I add on December 21st or before sync to the phone OK. If I add them on the phone instead, they DO sync up to Google Calendar so it appears that something is restricting the date range that will sync down to the phone. Repeating events (such as birthdays) do repeat into future years OK though. Any ideas what is causing this date range restriction and can it be changed ?

I have my San Francisco synced and also Mozilla Lightning (plugin for Thunderbird email client) calendar synced with Google. The funny thing is that if I create an event on Jan 21st 2012 in Google Calendar then it will sync fine to the Thunderbird Calendar but not to the phone which indicates that it is android not receiving the event rather than Google Calendar not sending it.

I'm glad it's not just me then :-) Will be interesting to see if events after Dec 21st appear eventually indicating that it's some kind of rolling cut off date. Doesn't appear to be because today it still won't add a single event any later than Dec 21st. I also just tried adding a monthly repeating event starting on Dec 23rd but that didn't sync either so doesn't seem to be the type of event, only when it starts from that cuts off.

Just tried further tests. Adding an event for a date in March 2012 on the phone syncs up to PC fine but subsequent changes to that event done on the phone do not get picked up on the PC. Likewise, editing the event on the PC doesn't change the event on the phone either. The same test for any event before December 21st 2011 works fine, sync'ing both ways as it should.
Guest rbbrslmn Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 wondered about this before thanks for trying it out fellas. perhaps a quick email to google about it if theres a contact point for calender?
Guest Roger-S Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 wondered about this before thanks for trying it out fellas. perhaps a quick email to google about it if theres a contact point for calender? A friend of mine who has the same phone (but running on a different ROM) did the same tests and his worked fine so it looks like it may be an issue at the phone end rather than with Google Calendar itself. His wife also has the same phone but is running on a later release of the Japanese Jellyfish ROM so he was going to check if her phone updates OK as they both share a common Google calendar.

An update - the cut off has suddenly moved and now, the last date that syncs properly is January 20th 2012 ! Previous events after Dec 21st that didn't sync are now working and sync to the phone OK. Have added an event on the PC for January 21st to see when that appears on the phone.

I've just tried it on my wife's HTC Wildfire and that won't sync that far ahead either. So it doesn't look like it is specifically phone related but maybe a setting within Android itself, albeit possibly a hidden setting, to say how far ahead to sync.
Guest aeroport Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Any way to change this in the ROM or the calendar APK? (Useless calendar for business, if it can't even sync a year in the future) Or can someone recommend a different calendar app, which syncs properly with Google Calendar?
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 i have tested and doesn't work here too Paul's R11 rom
Guest threewater Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) I'm using Sebastian404's desoftened 2.2 ROM and as of today (Jan 23rd) it syncs only as far forward as Jan 20th 2012. However, what seems strange is that recurring events continue to sync OK (I got as far as January 2016 until my fingers got tired). I used to sync my BlackBerry using GoogleSync for BlackBerry and it allowed you set a forward sync up to a limit of 6 months, which was poor. (Syncing via USB to BlackBerry Desktop Manager set no such forward sync time limit). This leads me to suspect that what we're experiencing here is a Google calendar-inspired limit. If it is, it's far too short to be of practical use to me. I'd rather sync locally anyway without handing my data to Google, so if anyone has any ideas as to how to do so I'm all ears. EDIT: I've just found out how to do it! I downloaded the free version of SyncMate from Eltima (Mac only I think). This lets me sync Contacts and Calendar locally. I just ran it over WiFi and it behaved perfectly AND synched all future events. I thing the paid version gives you more sync possibilities but at the moment I'm happy working with what I've got for free. Edited January 24, 2011 by threewater
