Guest cartierv Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 First time I saw this. Warning dialogue pops up with that message and a hard drive icon in notifications. I've just powered down the phone and hoping it's a spurious problem. (I think it is from fiddling with Super user app and barnacle tether (an absolutely horrendous bug ridden piece of junk)) but as there was like 20-30 mb spare and suddenly apparently 1.7 mb its some internal cache or data that's run amok ?

You can check in the "Applications" area of settings exactly which applications are using the most diskspace, clicking on them will tell you the size of the app data and give you an option to clear it. If this don't help then I suggest installing a Froyo rom and using the stock froyo "Move to SD" function for apps ;)
Guest cartierv Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 thanks. Internet had ballooned to 43 mb somehow. Seems to have fixed it. I'm going to install Froyo either JJ or Seb's version. But am just trying to make sure I'm not installing some secret Google extras with JJ.
Guest cartierv Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) But it deletes all my bookmarks in clearing data. Gawd that is crap. Unlikely to suddenly be 43 mb of bookmarks ain't it ? Why don't they separate bookmarks and whatever cache it hasn't capped properly for itself to begin with ? You really honestly wonder what the hell is going in people's minds working on android. Just totally haven't got a clue. Edited January 18, 2011 by cartierv
Guest stanno Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) I'm getting these messages a lot on stock 2.1 also. Here's the weird thing though - when I check Task Manager it says I'm only using 54% of the memory (225M with 190m still free). When I look at Titanium Backup however it says I'm using 220m with 20m free. Somehow the memory is showing up as 256 and therefore triggering alerts when according to Task Manager there is 512 available. What's going on here? Edited January 19, 2011 by stanno

You're confusing RAM & storage space, they're two separate things.
Guest stanno Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 You're confusing RAM & storage space, they're two separate things. Ah, thanks. What was confusing me is that they're displayed in exactly the same way in both applications (as a progress bar alongside CPU usage). So if I kill most running apps (presumably in RAM) and storage isn't a problem then why am I still getting the warnings?
