Any solutions to Froyo's aggressive memory management?

I've been using Froyo on the blade and apps seem to get killed off much sooner - by all accounts Froyo has more aggressive memory management than Eclair - and this shows in reality as apps are being killed off with the memory only half full.

Performance was never a problem on the stock 2.1 so I don't see why this is necessary. So I'm considering the possibility of going back to a 2.1 ROM, but I really would rather stick with Froyo for its newer features, Google apps etc.

Is there any way to stop Froyo being so aggressive? Config files and such?

How about setting the values yourself, with "autokiller" from the Market? I guess you have root, since you are on 2.2...
