Guest Knife_Edge Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 I bought the following earbuds for my brother and thought I would try them in my phone as I had given up on the Blade being a music player due to the low sound levels. Anyway I was surprised at how loud they sounded, more than the stock headphones that come with the phone. Sennheiser MX6 In Ear Headphones / Black If you PLAY around on google you may discover a RIVER where these headphones can be found for between £4.50-5.00. Being made by Sennheiser the sound quality is excellent for the price, and I find earbuds, rather than IEM's, more useful as I am constantly having to take my headphones in and out. I purchased my Blade back in October 2010, so I don't know whether the newer phones are suffering from the same low sound levels. To hear the sound I was using the stock player on the phone. Hope this info helps other users suffering from the same problem. The music was loud enough that I could listen to it in the street.

Why are we talking in code?

Guest gn123 Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) If low sound levels are a problem, maybe a small amp will help. Perhaps a cheap fiio E5: http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-E5-Portable-H...r/dp/B001PYZYI8 I have never found the sound levels to be poor anyway though. EDIT: I should also add, Radiopaq Jazz work great with the SanFran, good reviews on head-fi, and pretty cheap too at only £20. Edited January 19, 2011 by gn123

Although these Sennheiser MX6 are louder than the sennheiser MX560 that I use on my Cowon D2. They seem to make the best of what little sound the phone produces, without having to worry about headphone amps and suchlike.
Guest Movisman Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Hi guys, I've got some Sennheiser CX-400 II in-ear headphones (http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/home_en.nsf...cxseries_502743) and these are easily loud enough and sound great. I keep them the phone volume at about 80-85% whilst in the gym, and it drowns out everything around me. I guess it also helps that these go fairly deep into the ear canal, though. They retail for about £35-40 - beware of the cheaper imitations as they pretty much all of them are NOT genuine! ;) Cheers

I had a pair of sennheiser px-100 that were 24ohm and music through my phone was but a whisper through them.

Alot of people don't like having something going so deep into the ear, or find them impracticable if they need to regularly take their headphones off. The posted headphones Sennheiser MX6 are earbuds, which tend to need a higher volume than 'in-ear' headphones, and I was pointing out that these ones are the loudest that I have come across for the Blade. The bonus being they are made by sennheiser (so good sound reproduction) and they are cheap at around a fiver.
Guest ololizoz Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 I think that the low volume is related to how many "rings" the earbuds have. If you look at the erabuds that came with the phone you will see that they have 3 black "rings" on the connector. And then look at the ones you bought. I'm sure that they only have 2 "rings". Earbuds with 3 "rings" have an inbuilt microphone, and those with 2 "rings" don't.

Earbuds with 3 "rings" have an inbuilt microphone, and those with 2 "rings" don't. the rings can affect how well they fit - but not all 3 rings are the same (some dont work at all). the ohm rating describes the electrical impedence of current into the earphones, lower rating equals lower impedance and therefore higher volume. 16 ohms is usually as low as they go but earbuds can come in 24 and 32 ohm varieties quite commonly, usually this isnt an issue but because the blade has such bizzarely low volume it does become a factor for this phone whereas usually its not in any way relevant. also the 'two rings' ones without a mic input on them tend to be much better quality headphones. incidentally when I use md HD201 with my blade, there is no annoying intereference, distortion or electrical sounds whatsoever, the quality is much much better, however, they are just too damned quiet

Guest c-m Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I've got custom earphones/plugs and its just about loud enough on full volume. Might look at some CX-500s
