my sister managed to dunk heres in water the other week (well her toddler did) there was a thread about that, she tried drying it out and everything works BAR the mic, whether in the camcorder or of course phone calls, it simply wont pick up sound anymore.

so of course her alternatives are to buy a new one or find someone who can replace the mic.

additionally, how much do you think that phone would go for on ebay?

thanks

Depends on how much the other person would be willing to pay for it. It would work quite well as a development device for someone, or could be easily used to fix another device with a cracked screen (there was a post on here by someone with that problem recently).

I've not opened mine up, but if you're happy doing it and confident with a soldering iron then you could take it out and see if somewhere like Maplins stocks a replacement?

cheers mate, is replacing the mic that simple, I mean is it just a generic part or something specific. I'm hardly a whizz at soldering but did manage to do a playstation many years ago.

As I've said I've never opened it up. Best case it's a generic part and you can replace it with something similar. Worst case it's a custom part that's surface mounted on the PCB.

Tbh unless your an expert just don't attempt it ;)

Same with replacing any hardware parts (Even something as simple as a screen, someone on here removed the screen and touch input never worked again)

If I were you I would sell the phone for spares / repairs and invest in a new blade.. Or you could keep the broken one and use it as a tablet / spare battery :)

the risk of breaking it isnt really a concern since its already broken....

It seams the microphone of my ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco) is broken after a fall down of the handset. I found someone else with the same problem in a German Forum:

@rbbrslmn

Did you open and repair the mic?

The pics from the Teardown are not that informativ:

I will try myself next week! :-)

install a nice GPS sofware and sell it on ebay.(as GPS)for 50 euro.

i test it with IGO may way, it s very good.

or put 2-3 cool game(like racing and soccer), and offer it for next christmas to a poor kid.

I doubt that the microphone is a special part, maybe a local phone shop could repair it, or you could try it yourself if you feel brave enough.
