External Battery for the Blade?

Recommended Posts

OK I am looking for an external battery for the blade to use while out on the bike (using GPS) I have found this one which looks ok:

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/5090433/ar...nal-batter.html

It says it can run at either 4.5v or 5.5v, but think the Blade is 5v? Will this be an issue?

Also it says "The battery itself is charged through a USB port, and provides 90 hours of battery life to mobile phones, 30 hours to MP3 players, and 20 hours to portable games consoles." Is this between charges? Even if it lasts 20 hours it would be impressive.

Or does anyone have any other recommendations?

I have a Power Monkey. It works really well and provides many, many hours of additional life should you need it.

Heard it doesn't come with micro usb adapter necessary for the Blade?

Does the power monkey use a built-in rechargeable battery?

I ask because I've got 2powr monkey lookalike device that use alkaline AAA cells but the device wont seem to charge. I suspect it even discharge the SF when.it is plugged in.

Mine did.

And unlike imitations, it seems to work ...

This is my only concern about getting one. It's not listed in the attachments list.

As OD says above your post, the microUSB tip IS included.

I've had the Power Monkey for a while (used with previous phones) and it doesn't have the micro USB attachment because I presume it's a more recent development but I use the USB female adaptor and use the supplied power cable instead.

Nice. Will see if I can source a micro USB attachment as well. Thanks.

Why would you want two?

As you have been told twice, (third time now) the micro-usb adaptor IS in the kit currently supplied by OrangeAccessories for £8.

I'll even add that it is listed among the "Classic pack contents" on the liner inside the bottom of the clear plastic box ...

I know this is probably a bit old school but has anyone else thought this could be a good idea?

http://www.bikester.co.uk/bicycle-equipmen...eller-dymotec-6

with one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BICYCLE-DYNAMO-POWER...=item2eb2b7dc08

I know it works out quite expensive but if it does work it would could be used to power all manor of items whilst out on a bike ride

I've been thinking of doing this for my upcoming bike holiday in Holland. I'd be interested to see if this works - if it can still charge my SF as it's running GMN I'd be very happy indeed...

OK just a quick re-cap......

THIS ONE only chucks out 5V 500mA so not sure it will be enough to keep the phone charged when GPS is on.

I take it THIS ONE and THIS ONE are the same thing? If so a PDA should get around 6 hours of charge from it according to the amazon description, can anyone confirm they are getting around that? Has anyone used while using GPS?

Thanks for all the info so far peeps

I have the power monkey. The power monkey is seen as an AC charger by the SF, and not a USB charger, so I presume charges quicker?

The power monkey won't charge the SF completely full from near flat, and tends to do upto about 80-90%, but when the SF is used with the power monkey connected, it gets its power from the power monkey and not the internal battery, so as the power monkey is 2200 mAh, I presume it will last quite a while.

The power monkey does come with a micro USB tip along with several others, and it also comes with a useful mains travel charger for other countries

Have a look at www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk . I also have the 3400 mAh battery from them and it will do nearly two full charges of the SF, and its not much bigger than the SF. They also so a 5000 mAh unit with two outputs for charging two things at once - but if you search on Amazon for " 5000 mAh external batttery " you will see a similar one for less money

I have a Powerchimp (powered by two AA batts). Using NiMh rechargables it's seen as as AC charger by the SF.

Now if you buy anything to reach 10 pounds shipping is FREE...... The choice is yours...(buy old crap for 2 pounds?)

Have a good Night

Update....For me the above is GOOD, I need something more robust for mountain biking / snowboarding... High capacity may be below???
