...Q: Can I suggest a word processor and keyboard, ie Mobile Word.

A: Orange will be launching a keyboard soon...

...A: The software update, which will be released soon, will address these issues...

Roll on November 2007 o/

A: The T9 dictionary will remember words that are entered in abc mode. Unfortunately, the dictionary is lost when the phone is powered off. This issue has been raised with our engineering department.

What a f*cking joke.

All in all a bit disapointing. Shame about the IR TV controller too :/, at least Orange are finally admitting to some of hteir mistakes now though...

I have to say, it seems like an OK q&a update to me, answers some questions quite well.. If only their Q&A, and software updates were a little more frequent!

These questions are definitely ripped off from this site and elsewhere.

Nobody in Orange CS would know most of those answers.

Q: After making a call using the headset on my SPV, I pulled out the headset only to find that the profile would not change back (still left on headset). Even turning the phone off and removing the battery would not solve the problem.

A: This is a known issue that has been fixed in the latest software, which will be available as an update very soon.

Some people believe this is a hardware problem?

Q: Is there any way to store ringtones on the flash card instead of in the phone memory as .wav tones take up loads of room?

A: It is not possible to set wav files stored on the SD card as ring tones

Oh yes it is :)

Q: Software to enable the phone to be used as a television remote control would be flare (great).

A: This is not going to be possible as the infrared port does not support the CIR (Consumer Infrared) standard, which is required to allow control of home appliances.

It's still possible to use simulate this standard using the SPV, as one of the baud rates gives a frequency which is just below what standard remotes use. There was a very detailed site I found on this the other day...

hmm I wonder if the fact that paul is in the US with M$oft, and most likely some orange people, they just used the first bit of his bugtrack list, and a quick browse of modaco??

What a f*cking joke.

Totally agree - the hopeless T9 is, after the DK update, the SPV's only real problem AFAIC. It's really beginning to annoy me now. A real shame as the phone is otherwise perfect...

Q: Because the phone is able to play music, would the SPV be able to support polyphonic tones in a possible future update?

A: No, but it is possible to play .WAV files as ring tones, which means you can listen to any tune or sound you want. Several developers are working on polyphonic Midi players which will let you play polyphonic tunes on your SPV, but you cannot currently choose them as a ring tone.

So what about this then Polyphonic Midi i've got it as my ringtone and works a treat, sounds pretty polyphonic to me (but i guess it aint a true poly tone).

I like the part that talks about the "Radio Off" function and that you can use this function say when you are on a plane and then they say but you may need to convince the airline staff that the radio is off and that might not be so easy to do. well any chance you could help us! (Dipshits, we have bought phones from a bunch of dipshits).

Orange state, quite often, that they "developed the phone with Microsoft". If this is true, then they'd know everything there was to know about it, AND Orange would be a co-defendant with Microsoft in the forthcoming Sendo case. Instead, Sendo's lawyers state that they're going to subpoena senior Orange figures as witnesses for the prosecution. The impression that one is left with is that Orange jumped aboard a project that was already near completion, participated minimally in the development, but handled marketing and some of their own firmware (which, to be fair, they're better at than most of their UK rivals) In which case... they're acting as little more than a conduit, and getting info at second hand from Microsoft and HTC. It might be that this scenario fits in most plausibly with customer experience... (like "we don't KNOW when the upgrades will be available.")
