Guest phlum Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) In the wise words of Dr. Emmett Brown... IT WWWOOOOOORRRRKKKSSS!!!!! And I'm a genius, genius, 'cause I believe in goooodddd... *ahem* Sorry. Forget everything below; if I put the stock Orange ROM on my phone and remove ClockworkMod, then I should be able to get it replaced, right? --extra pointless life story begins here-- Well... I went down to the Orange shop this morning with my Blade whose power button was quite temperamental. The bloke in the shop must have done something to it, I thought, because after having it in the staff-only area for a few minutes he came out and it seemed to work fine. Returning home I promptly attempted to restore the backup I made (because I'd installed the stock ROM) and it appeared to work fine - except it got stuck in a bootloop; so, I kept having to enter Clockwork Recovery to wipe stuff, and eventually after installing JapJelly, it worked fine with all my stuff. I switched it off, inserted my Giffgaff SIM which I'd previously added a goody bag to, and switched it on again. 'No SIM card. Emergency calls only', my lock screen said before WidgetLocker opened up. Stange, I thought; doesn't installing a new ROM unlock the handset? I rebooted the phone, and I got the same stuff. There was no unlock prompt. I wondered if it was something to do with the phone so I turned it off, reinserted my Orange SIM and - guess what - the power button has died completely. With Froyo and Clockwork on the phone. So, unless I can get the blighter on again, returning isn't really an option. Is there anything I can do? (Helpfully I have a spare phone) Note that my phone is actually unlocked as I can use other SIM cards. Just the Giffgaff SIM that's faulty. EDIT: It's a problem with the Giffgaff SIM, not the phone. However there's still the issue of the power button... EDIT2: Actually, I've just remembered - the Giffgaff SIM did work before I'd activated it. Edited January 22, 2011 by phlum

Guest phlum Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 maybe unlocking your phone would of helped with the giffgaff SIM But it's unlocked, else I would get a prompt to enter a code, wouldn't I? It doesn't recognise the SIM at all. Well, AFAIK anyway - the handset just does not want to switch on! I wonder if there's a way to reassign the power button while the phone is turned off...
Guest Lew247 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Look for previous people with this problem Use the code generator and unlock the phone - emergency calls says the sim card is recognised but the phone is locked My OSF didn't ask for a code when I installed a gg card or O2 card, I had to put a Vodafone card in to get the menu to put in the unlock code up Try a Voda, 3 or T-MMobile card in it

But I still need to know if there's a way to get the power button to work properly. EDIT: It's unlocked - it's recognised my Virgin SIM fine with no prompt or anything. Definitely an issue with the SIM. Edited January 22, 2011 by phlum

Proper blonde moment. I did that before. Silly us! :) Y'know, it'd be handy if you could swap SIM cards without switching the phone off. Is there such a way?

Guest phlum Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 nah you have to remove the battery How come? I've always done it without removing the battery...
Guest Len Ash Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 How come? I've always done it without removing the battery... I wouldn't try that - it will damage the fragile chip inside. As in flex and crack. Guy who had 2 giffgaff SIMs from me did exactly that... twice. DH.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 nah you have to remove the battery same thing for the sd card remove the battery and of course the usb cable  (proper blonde moment too)
