Guest cbrpaul Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Im doing this guide on request !! O2 only send mms ( picture messaging) to your blade at a default size of 25k, which is pathetic. This is how I managed to spoof my blade to receive mms ( picture messaging) in max size if you are on the o2 networks First of all this guide assumes you have all the needed mms settings ( apn,s) for your network already operating and working . I am running “ swedish snow” , with “ the kernel update” from modaco and this is a 2.1 I believe you will need to have your phone “rooted” Programs needed : 1. http://androidcommander.com/ 2. http://sites.google.com/site/droidlife31/h...?attredirects=0 ( *It is in the cyanogen 5.0.5.7 Mms.apk for eclair roms, but for 2.2 roms please see further down for a different Mms.apk member pully has confirm this method works on 2.2 also) Now, install android commander ( I will use this program as its very straight forward as opposed to adb which is more command line) Once open navigate to /system/apps in the right pane window. Scroll down to you see Mms.apk Pull Mms.apk using the command at the top of android commander to you desktop and keep as backup ( put in a different place to the Mms.apk you downloaded ) !! Now goto the Mms.pak that you download from the link above and drag it across to the right pane window of your blades /system/apps directory. Next reboot your blade, When your blade has started go to the built in “ standard sms app” ( my setting is only here ) and select menu/settings , scroll right down the bottom and select “Custom User Agent” and I chose “ Iphone3 “ Next I installed “handsent” as this can adjust the picture size automatically to enable the 300kb limit to use on the o2 network , then once installed go to handsent menu/settings/send message settings/Maximum mms size, and set mms to default 300k. Then send a mms to yourself , using handsent and it should reduce a large picture down to the correct size to send ok, then you should receive it the same size back and not thumbnail size !! Mine took a few goes to send, but it got there in the end , I think the system the other end calibrates or something to your new request. * Cyanogen 5 is Eclair based. https://github.com/JakeJP/android_packages_...s_SBM/downloads Used the jakemod5 mms apk on JJ Rls8 2.2 rom certainly received a pic over 100K in size I hope this helps some out , and i can return some of the help i got from this site Edited January 22, 2011 by cbrpaul
Guest c-m Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Is there factual evidence that it you are on the O2 network you can only receive 25kb message with this phone, or is this just from your experience. I only ask as i have been receiving 2kb message but i think that was my girlfriends set-up on her wave, as the last one came through as 25kb. I really need to get her wave to take a look.
Guest c-m Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Doesn't work. If i move Mms.apk then i lost the default mms app. I then copy across the new one, but i am still without the mms app. I reboot the phone and still don't have an mms app. I try to reinstall the app and it comes up with "application not installed" Rom= JJF8 Edited January 22, 2011 by c-m
Guest Pully Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 I think that mms apk is for 2.1 roms only
Guest c-m Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Ah the OP just says he's running a Swedish rom not what version. Doh. Fortunately i had GoSMS installed, so i'll have to use that now.
Guest cbrpaul Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) there is only one version of "swedish snow" here doh !!! •Swedish Snow RLS1 TFT/OLED (2.1 Eclair) provided by kallt_kaffe - Mystery ROM based on on TSE_P729VV1.0.0B01 (Comviq Sweden) http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ls1-2011-01-05/ i can only confirm this works on this rom obviously as this is what i have !! The shortcut of the default sms app on the home screen dissapears on mine too, but you can go to your main screen and the app is there, merely drag in back to your home screen !! Guest c-m Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Thanks. But i can confirm that this doesn't work for 2.2 Does that mean that on 2.2 we can receive normal picture message, or are we stuck with a limit?
Guest Pully Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Frankish says he uses the mms app from a Cyanogen rom, theres another thread on this subject a bit further down the page. Just replaced Mms.apk with jakemod5 mms apk into my JJf8 Rom and seems to work (GiffGaff SIM) Edited January 22, 2011 by Pully
Guest cbrpaul Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 The Mms.apk in my link above is a cyanogen 5.0.5.7 Mms.apk

Guest Siddas Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) glad to have helped  Please can someone help me? I am using a debranded but standard rom on the SF with a giffgaff sim. I am having the problem with the small MMS pics being received. I am also having problems sending them too - they are tiny on the recipients phone. I have tried the Android Commander route but it won't pick up my phone despite downloading all the SDK elements. So I looked at another way of using Root Explorer on the rooted phone and copying the Mms.apk to the System\Apps folder. Luckily I backed the original app up. With the new Mms.apk in the Apps folder I could not use the stock android messenger service. Did I need to do something with the apk I had just pasted into the Apps folder? I did try and install it but it failed. I am losing the will with this as I have spent hours now trying to fix it. Could someone please point out what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help. **EDIT** Sorted it now. Edited January 27, 2011 by Siddas

However when I unzip I can not find the Mms.apk in the folder. Could somebody help me understand what I am doing wrong. ;) Thanks for any replies
Guest Pully Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) MMS APK - link to the apk file - rename to mms.apk Or for a file you can flash via clockwork see this thread. Backup the old mms.apk first ;) Edited February 1, 2011 by Pully
Guest Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks all! Seems to have worked for me too!
Guest c-m Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 This isn't working for me. I have installed the modded sms app. Changed the user agent to iphone3 and using an aftermarket mms app set the max image size to 1mb - i send and image to myself it's only 25K I tried setting max image size to 300k but it still comes through as 25K I even tried setting the user agent to n95 but still no luck.
