Recovery Mode problems

I have just got my mobile back from repairs and it had version 2.1 installed, I have installed Fastboot and the latest Openswift 4.4 (19/1/11/) and recovery Clockwork 2.5.1.8.

When I press the power on I get after about 5sec the screen backlight comes faintly on then (sometimes a flash of streaky colours then) the Cyanogen Mod animated logo 2sec later I am in the main start screen.

The problems I have is accessing Recovery Mode, When I press the home and power buttons to startup in recovery mode it just doesn't appear. All I get is a black screen no menu? It seems that the first part of the o/s is missing how can I fix this, as now I am running 2.2.1 and have been told I can't go back to 2.1.

Forget this post, my Optimus has stopped working again third time!! I give up this mobile is a heap of rubbish, have fixed it drove car over it now I won't have any more problems.
